87 24' enforcer prop question?

Hey everyone I'm chase I'm a newbie here. Lol! I just recently picked up my newest checkmate and it's a 87 checkmate enforcer 24' with a 200hp mariner on it. The motor runs strong now that I got all the kinks out, required a external fuel pump, new plug wires, plugs, and cleaned the carbs. Right now for what I can tell it has a 26p prop there's not much to go by but it's has 2684 I think stamped on it I can't find a brand or anything else. At wot and trimmed up it's at 4800rpm and speedo (not gps) says 40mph. I'm trying to find out if that's where I need or should be? What rpm range should I be at and should I got up or down on prop pitch? My neighbor has a 23p prop I can try out as well. I'd like to see a little more mph out of it but I'm thinking that's about all she has being only a 200hp motor. This isn't a big concern bc I got th boat cheap bc the guy I bought it from wasn't mechanically inclined to mess with it and with $25 dollars and a few hrs labor it's running strong! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'm not a MariMerc guy but I'd say 4800 is way too low. You wanna see more like 6000. 26 is way too stiff for that boat with only a 200. I would bet a 21 4 blade would work pretty well. A Trophy is a good prop for bow lift which is what you need with a nose heavy boat like that.

Well I have a 21p mirage that came off of a alpha one that from what I've read will fit a merc/mariner that I could try and see where It puts me at? Also like I said I can try my neighbors 23p as well once I get a Better idea where my rpm's need to be? From what I understand a 4 blade is good for coming out of the hole quick but you can loose top end where a 3 blade you sacrifice a little hole shot but get a better top end out of it? Of course that also depends on the make of prop, boat and everything else. Also I have a manual jack plate as well and I'm guessing it is set to high bc I have to have the motor trimmed down as far as it goes to take off or the prop cavitates is the correct word I think where it gets to much air and spins? This also happens when I'm trimmed up some and take hard turns to where I have to trim all the way back down to get going again.

The reason I say something like a Trophy or TRO4 is because on paper a 3 blade may be faster but often on a boat that is bow heavy you can get a lot more hull out of the water with one of the two I mentioned and therefore go faster in real world conditions. My boat does everything better with my 4 blade but gives up a couple of MPH up top. 90% of the time I'll take easier steering, less torque steer in the wheel, better bite in turns, quicker planing, and being able to hold a plane at less MPH over those 1 or 2 MPH up top. Chances are pretty good that with the wife and kids on board, my 4 blade probably carries the weight better and gives better top end than my "fast" prop does.

There's a lot of guys here who know a lot more but I would guess your prkpshaft centerline should be about 3.5 or 4 inches below the bottom of the V.

And look like this?

Ok thanks for all the info. Soon as I get a better idea on my rpm's I'll start testing the waters and seeing what happens? The plus is I live on the lake so I just have to walk out the back door lol!

Yea that is this boat I bought. Was it yours before the guy I bought it from?

You're gonna need more setback to get the bow up. I've got a 83 Enforcer w/250 HP Envinrude turning a 24P raker. My setback is 17" and the cavation plate is 4.5" above the V-pad. That puts the centerline of prop about 3.5" below the V-pad. Like this:

I think the jack plate on it now is a 4-5 set back and I'm not sure how far down it is set right now I will check when I pull it out of the water. Would I need a hydrolic or is a manual jack plate fine and what are my options on the set backs?

I will get some pics of it posted up soon. This winter I will be painting it and redoing the interior. I couldn't beat the price I paid for it, it's really not in bad shape either. I still have to hook up the trim tabs on it, the 2nd before me must have taken the pump of it it for some reason.

Cmpulse do you have any swim deck or platforms on yours or ladder? Mine has nothing and I'm trying to figure out a setup for it to make it easy for the ol lady to get out of the water. Lol! Also what mph are you seeing with the 250?

I have a ladder with a small platform to get in and out of the boat. You can get a 12" setback bracket like I have. That will get your setback around 17" with the jackplate you got now. The best so for with the 250 hp is 65 GPS.

Where did you get your setback bracket and what do they cost?
Ok I was looking at some of those platforms but wasn't sure how it would fit with my trim tabs it doesn't leave you much room back there.

The setback bracket you can get here: http://www.hydrodynamics-usa.com/staticplate.html or get in touch with wildman he's a vendor and sells them:http://liberatorfl.tripod.com/id15.html. The swim platforms you can get at Overtons http://search.overtons.com/?Ns=p_im...1&Ne=1000&N=2906&cname=Ladders-Swim-Platforms. You'll have to notch out a piece of the platform to fit over the trim tabs. I'll see if i can find a picture for you showing that.

Your max recommended RPM on that motor is 5800, lots of guys run them at 6000, it's lugging pretty bad at 4800, you need to spin a smaller prop, like was said a 21 would be a good starting point, and hang the motor in a different zip code :D

Ok thanks yea I have another 1000rpm then which should make the boat go faster plus alot better holeshot right?

I'm gonna try the 21p I have see what it does ad set the motor height a little better and hopefully get some better numbers out of it. Then look at getting a further set back.
