Hey Gang,

We created this forum for all of the boats where the original hull design was a Checkmate design, but the boat was actually manufactured by another company.

As many of you may already know, Checkmate has sold a number of their moulds over the years to third parties. So there are boats floating around (pardon the pun) which are more or less identical in design to their Mate counterparts. Some of these boats were manufactured using the hull moulds and different deck moulds, some with both. There are also models which were "splashed" or cloned using a Checkmate hull.

One example of a company that purchased Checkmate moulds from Checkmate would be Baja. Baja started up using purchased Checkmate moulds, so some of the early Bajas designs were identical to some of the early Checkmates. Another example would be Paradise and Fantasy who used the old Checkmate Playmate moulds to build their versions of the 80's Playmate later in the 90's.

For now, we will leave this forum as a "catch-all" for the different manufactures, brands and models. If there is significant content related to one or more particular knock off brands, or if we get member requests, we create a dedicated sub-forum for that particular topic.

Have fun and enjoy! :welcome:
