Besides CHECKMATE,What would be your boat of choice?

My first pick was the WELLCRAFT SCARAB,but I guess they are no longer.

I've always liked FORMULAs and FOUNTAINs because of their involvement in racing. They look like they're still a quality piece.

I sure you guys will say if they aren't!

Erik, I agree with you, I like those brands too. It takes alot of horsepower to make a Formula fast, they are heavy boats, but they are GREAT in the rough stuff. I wish they did graphics in the gel. I absolutely love Fountain. I think Reggie is a genius, his wife isn't bad either. The wind was let out of my sails when Rick told me they have a cracking problem. When I lived in Wisconsin, most of my friends had Fountains, and nothing could compete. Checkmate never made anything big enough for people to consider. I also had a friend who had a 35 Cafe' Racer, it was slow, but a beautiful boat. Don't here too much about those Cigarettes anymore, seems Donzi is making a big comeback.

I know this is a checkmate site, but I am talking boats and sizes that Mate does make. I hope I do not get repromanded again.

If you read the top part of it Bill. If I recall it said A Non Checkmate Forum, talk about whatever you like. I like (and dream) about skater. If I were to get anything, it would be the 28 Pleasure with twin 300X's. That would easily push it over 100. Fountain is another good name. Douglas Marine, Pier 57, all fancy expensive names with beautifual and fast boats!

A few years ago, down here in Dubuque, IA, we had a dealer try to make a go of selling Fountains. Sure, they are a fast hull with a great bottom design, but we went and checked out the 3 he had sitting there. Talk about junk. Bad lines, full of waves, sloppy fiberglass and gel work, and the graphics were either painted on or decals. (I'm actually downplaying it here). They were a perfect example of very poor craftsmanship. I've seen Fountains at boat shows as well. You have to admit, aesthetics is not on their priority list. Sorry if I offend, maybe I'm spoiled, I'm use to Checkmate quality.

I understand they are solid and very fast, though...I have not driven one or ridden in one.

Does anyone remember that totalled Foutain of Ebay? That was crazy. Now tell me who would buy that? I havn't heard much bad until now. I don't think many of use will be affording one anyways so thats why Checkmate is here. Pretty cool how it costs less money for better craftsmanship and a overall better boat!

Just another comment: Have you ever wondered why your Checkmate looks as good as it does? Why the lines are straight and smooth, and the graphics are almost perfect? Not to mention the way it handles and it's solid construction?

Read J.W.'s article on Checkmate boats at the Scream&Fly site.

I remember Jim's Article over at S&F. It was very well done and gives people a good insight on Checkmate Boats Inc. Can anyone really say anything wrong about the boats? Not the company itself, the actual boats?

For pure ride I don't think that there is much out there that touches a cig. I have three friends that have fountains 2)35'and a 42' Fast boats, but if it gets a little rough you would rather be a in something different. I like the active thunders and cigs myself. I took a ride last year in a 46 black thunder what a ride. speed of a performance boat and luxury of a cruiser. For value sunsation makes a solid boat.

I like the kind of boat that I own, low sleek outboard powered lake boats. If Checkmate was no more, I'd be chasing: Allison, Triad/STV, or the new Hydrostream.

I wouldn't mind a nice little Donzi sweet 16'.

If mate where no longer I would have a Triad/STV Euro, 4 seater tunnel hull, with as much HP as I could get. 100+ Yea baby. Allison grand sport V bottom with the same HP.

my other dream boat would be a 33ft Eliminator with twin 500hp's or even bigger!lol I do like the cat's!! they look awesome going down the lake!

I'm with Gus. I would love a nice Triad, or a Progression would do nicely as well.

If I couldnt have a Checkmate:
For speed I would love an Allison V, There hull efficancy is incredible, Wouldnt it be a blast to run over 100 with a V4, They claim it is possible.
For lake Ontario I would like a SuperBoat 21-23' or an Intimadator. There good ruff water boats but small enough for easy trailerability and a lot of fun.
