Bimini installation (groan)

Has anyone ever installed a Bimini on a Diplomat?

If so, which kind did you go with and where did you mount? The thought of drilling holes in my shiny, newly aquired boat makes me slightly nauseous.

My wife made this a condition of purchase though so there's no getting out of it.

I've got the same kind of problem with my Inmate 1. Wife wants and needs a sun cover and for some reason a top on these boats doesn't seem right.

I was thinking that a good, solid adjustable picnic umbrella(for use when stopped or docked) would do the trick.

Make a base plate and a couple nylon straps and mount it on the wood floor. Take it down when you're cruising and put it up when you're moving slowly or stopped.

Just might satisfy her.

im useing my ski bar mount as a base for a large beer umbrella ,i know you cant drive around with it up , but it beats drilling holes all over your boat, you could use straps from the corners if needed.

Check out the AnchorShade marine umbrella. Do a web search - lots of distributors.

I've got one for my 28 it works great and you can idle around with it.

Now we just need some sun.

I feel a lot better knowing that I was not the only one with the umbrella idea. When I suggested that to her, she thought I was nuts.

Its good to hear that it works in practice. I'll try it this weekend.

My 10 month old son goes with us on short slow rides so my wife is in "keep the sun off of my baby" mode. I guess if it means I get to spend more time on the 'mate I'll relent and break out the drill.

I use an Anchorshade umbrella in my Senator . Works great , just don't move any faster than idle . West Marine sells them for about $200.00 . I still can't drill holes in the fiberglass and I've owned the Checkmate for over 10 years !
