Bravo 1 oil capacity

Superjet

New member
Anyone know what the capacity is for the Bravo 1? Mine is a 98 if that makes any difference.
What lube do you recommend? I have heard good things about the Amsoil and am leaning that direction.

I have run standard Merc Hi-Performance gear oil in many drives with no oil related issues for years. As of late, with my current power increase, I have noticed I can only get 1 season ( maybe 70 hours ) from a set of standard Merc XR lower gears. With this winters rebuild, I am trying a set of cryogentically and micronite treated lower gears. The jury is still out, as I have not run it yet.
I have also switched to Royal Purple synthetic gear lube mixed with 5 oz of ProLong engine treatment. That seems to be what most performance guys are running.

Hopefully, things stay together for the season. We will see how everything wears in the fall.

As for capacity, I think your drive will hold about 2 1/2 quarts or so. Cant say for sure, I use a 5 gallon bucket of gear lube to fill drives. No matter what lube you use, you still have to change it often if you beat it up. I change mine every 20 hours with the engine oil.

bravo 2's hold about 2 litres and if i remember right, bravo 1's are around 1.2 litrers a bit more if you include the reservoir. i have run merc high performace since it came out. works very well although it is harder to tell when water is present in the oil. recently i made the switch to amsoil in the drive, used it in the engine for the last year and i seems to work well.

2.8 qts including the reservoir. If you run Mercruiser gear lube - It MUST be the Hi-Perf type.
