BRAVO 1 STUCK IN GEAR

HEY GUYS,
I LAUNCHED MY 253 THIS WEEKEND BUT HAD SOME CARB TROUBLE AND STALLED THE ENGINE OUT BEFORE I COULD GET IT OUT GEAR. I AM NEW TO THE BRAVO 1 DRIVES AND WAS TOLD NOT TO SHIFT THE DRIVE IN OR OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNNING OR I COULD DAMAGE THE DRIVE. IS THIS TRUE? I WAS TOLD TO HAVE SOMEONE SPIN THE PROP BY HAND AND TRY TO GET THE SHIFTER BACK IN NUETRAL. WELL THE BOAT IS ON THE MOORING STUCK IN GEAR AND NOT RUNNING DUE TO A BAD POWER VALVE IN THE CARB SO I WILL TRY AGAIN NEXT WEEKEND. THANKS.

THANKS. I THINK IF I HAD TRIED SLOWLY IT WOULD HAVE GONE BACK INTO NUETRAL BUT I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE OF ANY MORE DAMAGE AFTER THE CARB PROBLEM.

I forgot to ask you this. How in the world does the guy who recommended you "Turn the prop by hand and shift it into neutral" expect you to be able to turn the prop. The last I heard, its stuck in gear!! Maybe he is just a strong guy??

when this happens to me... i use a remote start switch connected to the slave soliniod... roll the engine over and pull the shifter into neutral..

be careful pulling back to hard you will stretch the linkage cable or break it which I am currently involved in after i lost an outdrive in forward gear that was stuck.

In gear or not you should be able to spin the prop they're designed to free wheel if you blow the motor.

I disagree.. If you try to turn the prop by hand with the drive in gear, you will only be able to free spin in one direction.

gear head hear.. and am hear to tell ya... if your stuck in gear your stuck in gear... the only way your going to unstick a bravo is to roll the engine.. if you can spin the prop.. your have much greater problems.. bravos shift in the upper.. not the lower... and if the shift fork is stuck.. the gears in the upper gear case have to rotate ro release (if that is your only problem)
