The rubber on the bunks,did you put those on or is it a factory option ?? Never seen that before..
Must protect the carpet..
 
Joe, that is a good deal! I have the same question as Claupie about the rubber on the bunks. Thats a good way to keep the hull off of the wet bunks.

I have seen a few guys at the ramp with those type of pads.

Did they leave any marks on your white hull Seamate?? What about the screws fastening them to the bunks..any concerns/suggestions??
 
Bunk Slides

The bunk slides are not rubber they are poly. They leave no marks on the hull. The ramp I use most often is really not deep enough to float the boat off the trailer easily. The carpet would stick and I would have a tough time getting the boat launched. With the slides, she slides off much easier.

The screws were a concern but they are countersunk and I put a touch of waterproof glue on each screw when I installed them so they would not back out. They have been on all summer and I haven't had any issues.

I am downsizing my tow vehicle and I would like to upgrade to a tandem axle trailer with brakes to lessen the strain on the tow vehicle.
 
why would you change to a tandem? 4 wheels is more drag, tongue weight is more, as the trailer is heavier. Wouldn't be better to stick with a lighter trailer if you are downsizing?

I thought the tongue weight would be reduced with the tandem axle. Am I wrong?

I am sure that I would be better off with the disc brake option.

What I have seen on tandem boat trailers that where not needed was they bounced to much. If the boat is light on a tandem trailer it bounces the crap out of the boat because the suspension is stiff for a heavy load.

Its like sticking a Convincor on a tri axle trailer its just useless unless it had twins.

I'm with ya on the tandem axle deal. My 202 I/O has a single axle trailer w/ no brakes and it tows OK behind my V8 Jeep. My 234 big block has a tandem axle and although i have yet to tow it with the jeep, it works noticably better behind my truck. The thing with 2 axles is the boat and the subsequent wretching up and down/side to side on the road is dulled against the tow vehicle. With a single axle, there is a pivot point and that plays hard on the hitch. Dual axles will dampen that effect if loaded correctly. Yes, it's a heavier trailer but it's largely unsprung weight. Drag on the tow vehicle is negligable.
 
Add brakes

This may be a dumb question, but what about just putting a surge break set-up on your existing trailer??:confused:

There is metal cutting and welding / painting associated with the upgrade. Very expensive to add the brakes. I should have opted for brakes when I ordered the trailer.
 
I feel the same way, I don't even know that the boat is back there with my Dodge Ram 2500, but with my G.F.'s Chevy Trail Blazer I can feel the heat coming off of the breaks when I get out of the truck.

Live and learn I guess?

towing weight is a factor of the load being towed - in general its around 6-10% of total weight being towed. so, with a tandem being heavier, you would have more tongue weight.

i didn't realize the trailer didn't have brakes, so i can see your stopping issue being a conern, however, you can pick up a single with brakes which i think should be fine for your use. you don't really need a tandem until you are getting into the 35-4000lb boat range .

Length

How long is the trailer from the end of the long bunk to the winch stand?
I may be able to put this 20" Switzer on it.
 
I used this trailer for my 2007 Pulsare 2100 (21 ft. closed deck). I believe that the measurement from the bow eye of the boat to the bottom of the transom is 19 feet.

The trailer has approximately 10" of adjustment for the winch stand. The height of the winch stand is also adjustable.
