change avitar photo

Jupiter,

Infopop did a bunch of updates to the board software yesterday. Try erasing your browsers temp files, cookies and history. Then give it another go and let me know how you make out.

Give it a try now fellas.

It looks like Infopop changed a setting when they did an update.

I also made it possible to upload an avatar from your hard drive. We didn't enable the ability to upload files initially in an attempt to try to keep the costs of running the site down. Photos and file storage use are one of the largest factors in the size of our hosting bill. And, unfortunately, we really don't have any revenues to speak of as we're not really a business. The site is basically paid for by a bit of advertising money we recieve from Google, donations recieved from members, and I personally pick up most of the tab.

We'll try enabling the upload avatar feature and see what happens. Let me know how you guys make out with it.

ok now im really a pain in the ass seems like everyone else can do it.what am i doing wrong it doesnt show the picture?

Which pic is that your trying to use boston?

It's probably just a typo in the url.

Bostoncan:
After chris tweaked the settings, I fought it for a while trying to get it to work, with no luck. I was just entering a part of the address not the whole thing, as soon as I typed everything from begining to end just as it appeared, it worked.

Good luck

Chris i put the address (copied it as it is in properties) it is the one that is in members rides for the picture of my boat. it shows checkmate address..checkmate-boats.com/images/memberpics/bostoncan.jpg thanks Scott

Here's a suggestion for you fellas.

Our avatars are approximately 110 pixels wide by 110 pixels high. So let's say for discussion purposes you use a photo that is 640 pixels wide by 480 high, the board will automatically compress the photo to 110 x110. And since the original photo wasn't square, it makes the avatar look somewhat distorted. So try this....

Right click on the photo you want to use for your avatar and save it to your desktop. Then from your desktop, open the photo in a program you can crop and resize it in. You could use photoshop, or even microsoft paint or photo editor. Crop the photo until it is square. You will probably have to crop the width only as the height will be the shorter of the two dimensions. Once you have the photo square, for example 480 pixels by 480 pixels, you can now resize it to 120 pixels x 120 pixels.

Save the new smaller avatar on to your desktop with a new name, something like bostoncanvatar.jpg. Upload the new smaller file from your desktop to our server and the new avatar should be much less distored and clearer looking.

If you want to get really fancy, you could also add some script to the avatar using the photo editing software. You could put your name, or the name of your model, or anything creative.
