corroded aluminum gas tank

AnYbody run into their aluminum gas tank leaking due to corrosion. I looked for replacements but not much luck. Anybody use the gas tank epoxy paint and have good luck with it.

I've had good luck with a product called Kreem on ATV tanks. 3 step system that works very well. Call them and make sure it's OK to use on aluminum though. I hear the one part stuff you get at the auto parts store doesn't work so well and the ethanol eats through it. What about having it welded?

There are shops out there that can coat/line the inside of a fuel tank. If you can't find a tank repair shop in your area call a radiator shop and they should be able to help.

The whole tank has small spots of corrosion. It would take forever to fill them all in. I asked por15 already and that didn't sound to promising

demag67, you might want to contact Boatworks by Roman in Norristown about your tank problem. I have been told they custom make parts that are no longer available.

Thanks Rob, I think that is the way I am going to go. Think anywhere that looks bad I am going to coat with marine tex first then coat the whole tank it that.

Most of the guys doing restorations on center console boats are using the coal tar epoxy on their gas tanks with excellent results. 90% of them are offshore boats.

There is a coating that the aircraft industry uses on the rivited tanks that is called Sloshing Compound. I used it when I fabricated custom fuel tanks for motorcycles to prevent rust from forming inside after I pressure tested them.

I used sloshing compound a long time ago too and it worked well but you cant use it with gas with ethanol.
