Dont be a "Dickmate"

i get what your saying , not everyone i wave at gives a wave back. when i started reading your posts i guess the word "dickmate" seemed odd . on this site 99.99% would wave and hand you a cold beer. so there are 2 checkmates at raystown lake that dont wave back ..good to know thanks.

Hand a cold beer, or use the beers to keep their hands full so they won't touch your boat?

Up here in the Great White North everybody waves back. Mostly because they are so excited to be able to use their boat as it might snow the next day and they will have to stay inside the igloo till it warms up again.

My complaint is how many bad drivers there are. In Canada all boaters require a boaters licence. Unfortunately, there is no drivers test and you can get it online . In fact some will have their brother-in-law write the test for them. So there they are out the water with their new card tucked into their speedos and they don't really know the first thing about navigation rules. Probably 1/2 the boats at our busy channel do not seem to know who has the right of way. There is a sign with 6' letters that says SLOW and yet most boats blast through full throttle.

Every year I will pull at least a couple of new boat owners, who are only 10 minutes into their holidays, off the rocks because they went on the wrong side of the buoy. They never even got to open water and their holiday came to a crashing end. No charts, no clue... no lower end.

My biggest beef by far though is the number of boats out on the lake at night with no lights. They know that they will not get caught. 1,000's of boats and almost no water cops. You can hear them out there but you see nothing. I always tell my wife I would like to go out at night with my paintball gun and tagged them. When I do encounter them, I actually pull them over and verbally abuse them. We had friends that were badly injured when they hit a boat with no lights. There are people killed very year on our busy lake. I will take a dickmate with running lights any day.

Like some of the others already said...
I have always waved, my parents always waved, my uncles always waved, and we all still do...

A few exceptions...
1. If someone is being an A$$ hole ( I might wave a little differently)
2. People with big 100 grand Cobalts that don't know how to drive
3. When I'm being an A$$hole  oops!

I feel like this custom is changing... fewer and fewer boaters are waving back and now i am seeing more and more that just ignore other boats altogether.

I was in my 20 foot fishing boat the other day, had downriggers out, rods everywhere, trolling in the middle of the lake with my 10 yr old son and 3 boats came across by bow at different times, within 80 feet, one about 3/4 on plane pushing out a huge roller and not one even looked at me...

now the law in NH is 150 feet, so these assholes either don't understand or don't care...

and on another note.... i have stopped letting cars in when in slow traffic, because i NEVER get a thank you wave anymore... F them.... society is either losing all social acumen or I am turning into a grumpy old guy...

Spencer, you got me there i do have OCD. we should all go to raystown lake someday maybe in the fall. its not far would be nice . Miller can show us around.

when are we going? setup a date and I'm there:bigthumb: I will be sure to wave to all boats while out to show them all proper boating etiquette:)

Will you be out on the Delaware this weekend?:offtopic:

Probably just safe boaters with both hands on the wheel and hangin on for dear life because Checkmates are sooooooo fast:D

Try flippin em the bird next time I'm sure you'll get a reaction then

For the record I wave at everyone on the water:welcome:

That is funny...:bigthumb:

I have a 251 and wave to every boat I pass (big and small). It is not only polite but good karma if I ever have a problem on the water.
There is however a guy with an Avanti that always looks down his nose at me,,, I think he wants a piece...

that area is nice in the fall, it would be a great spot to all meet up. when we get closer to late sept we should set up some dates . My boat has not moved since dobbins , too much stuff going on . that storm and the heat has kept me insanely busy. i wont be on the Delaware this weekend, but thinking of going out to the shore on friday most likely to cape may . Miller sorry to go off topic. your tour guide services may be needed we will show you proper checkmate etiquette. we have a secret weapon named SIM he can swim upto any crowd and get results, well almost any crowd.

Around here it seems the river boaters are much friendlier than the lake boaters. 90% or better of all the people I pass on the river wave.

I have never had a problem on the river and sat for more than about 5 min without at least one person stopping.

Over the 4the we sat on the lake for 35 minutes with the hatch up when my boat vapor locked. At least 10 people went by and not a single one of them waved or stopped to see if we needed help.

I have taken a solemn vow not to be a "DICKMATE"!!!

We'd be honored to play tour guide. We live about half an hour away from the lake. I've been going there since I was probably 6...& Im 40 now. Let me know when. Toni usually works every other weekend, but since she's the one who makes the schedule, Im sure we can make it work.

thanks for the offer.. maybe something later in sept could work , kinda an end of the summer bash. Ram will make t-shirts, his specialty .. (just kidding)... raystown lake is about a 4 hr drive for me , hopefully the ohio boys could make it. we can float some dates and see whos interested.

"Hey look if we go really slow its just like we are surfing behind our boat"

Whoever the hell invented that should be shot!!!

You sound just like me on any given Sunday! WTF, I would rather watch paint dry than watch these "cool kids" wake surf. Some of the real good ones can do 360's which shows some great athletisism, but most of them just ride the biggest wake ever while killing the docked boats along the river.

I stopped going to one of my local lakes partially because the lake was full of WB boats. That was also part of the reason that I sold the Pulsare for a car motor boat.

Hey! I love to wakeboard! but I have to be behind the mate!!!

My brother has a malibu inboard boat-ski boat- that we all ski behind and it barely makes any wakes and when we are really super bored and it's already too rough to ski then we might wakeboard but I just think it is not curteous to make huge wakes and screw everything up for people. I know that in my 259 I am always mindful of giong too slow when people are tied up or fishing or whatever. The state of Missouri actually says YOU are responsible for YOUR wake and any damage that it may cause.

Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a we hate wakeboard boats thread but wb boats tend to piss me off!!! I'll be goin out on the mate tomorrow maybe I'll just start spraying all of them with rooster tail!

Back to "the wave" topic, I have always waved to everyone. Unfortunately it seems to me that alot of the Checkmate owners up here in my part of Minnesota are too full of themselves to wave to anybody. Not all of them are that way, I have run across many frinndly mate owners up here also. I wish all owners would be friendly and helpful to their brothers on the water.
