Dual cable routing with jackplate/setback bracket

Been awhile since I posted but I got the enchanter out after two years and have finally been getting to all the little things I've needed to do to it.

One of the things is I'm going to be putting a small jackplate or just a setback bracket on it. I know most say it needs 10" or so on these hulls but will probably be determined on how far the cables will reach. Which leads me to my question... I want to bring the cables out though the back of the hull on the right side to get a little better angle. Where do I get something similar to this picture that the cables pass through? I really don't know what to call them which is why I can't find them.

One name for them is scuppers. Any decent boat store sells them, but also try searching that word. 10" Jack plate usually means longer cables needed, 6" you migh be able to stretch your existing cables. The scuppers will help.

one thing though.... my boat had hydrolic steering, so the hoses didn't move.. not sure if you need to allow for any movement with dual cable... probably not, i just don't know

that is a picture of my old Predictor...

I am 99.9% sure that those were from Perko Marine

next question.... :)

Awesome...thank you both. That pic was the first that popped up on Google that had what looked like what I was talking about. Also were the offshore looking hoses a kit or did you go a DIY route? I have some plastic conduit on mine but all of it is jammed though the same hole including the steering and would like to clean it up a bit.

And JW I figured as much with the 10" vs the 6". Which is why I may just go 6" then add another 4"-6" down the road if necessary. Regardless I'm going to disconnect if and move it up a hole or two since its buried now. Probably 5-6" below the pad. I'll measure to see how far the cables will go...then go from there.

These are what I used on my Predictor as well.

You will need to pull the cables off of the rack side and fit them through from the stern. Drill the holes for them at the angle the cables will be headed. They fit a little better that way.

Do a search for "outboard rigging Kit" You can buy everything you need to make it right.

:thumb: yeah, what he said

Thank you all again. If it wasn't for members like you guys on this site I never would have bought an older check. I'm looking forward to getting this boat presentable again. She fired right up after two years of sitting so I hope that is a good sign. Haven't taken it out in over two years do to my wife having some health problems. At one point I had even had been thinking about selling and getting out of boating for a bit.

Actually had a 79 predictor for a short time that I just cleaned up and flipped for a couple bucks to fund a gun build. Would love to have built that one too but I'm a man of many hobbies so it had to go. I'll be sure to post a couple pics up when I get it cleaned up a bit. Working on sanding/scraping a cheap clear job off of it at the moment.

Did you run your cables yet? I have an 88 predictor and I just order a dual cable kit, didnt even cross my mind that the angle would be terrible with the jack plate. It has 5.5" of set back and 5" of vertical.

No sir I haven't. Working on making a 6" setback bracket but was on vacation so haven't touched it in about a week. Just Google some pics and see where others have placed theirs. That's what I planned on doing. Just make sure you will have enough length wherever you decide to mount them. If I happen to get it finished I'll post a couple pics. EBay has quite a few of these . I think I found them under clam shell vents.

They are called clamshells! I have the same set up on my checkmate enticer! I also have 10in jack plate with dual cable steering. On the 16ft hull. The cables are 18ft and work perfect. With some extra tucked in the hull.
