Enchanter 200 merc?

Just curious if anyone else has the same boat and what do they run? Im running a 24 turbo on it and its turning 5500 rpms at 61 mph. Dont have a jackplate/ setback. Does this sound right? I also ran a 23 cleaver but spun 6500 which was too much at the same speed. Ive heard most guys run 68-70 mph with a jack plate and set back. Is that really the 7-8 mph im missing out on?

Glad you found your way here from S&F. I forgot to ask you over there where your prop centerline is in relation to the pad on the bottom of the boat? If the motor is too low that's not helping.

John

Yeah thanks had an account always liked s&f feed back, a lot of helpful people their. I would say about 8 inches below the pad if i had to guess. This is the only pic i have and never measured.

I'm sure parallax error and all comes into from the camera angle but I'd guess only a couple of inches below the pad. I have a yard stick that I put on the bottom of the hull and bring it straight out towards the lower unit. Then measure from the stick up or down to the center of the shaft.

Welcome and beautiful boat.

Thanks, yeah its really hard to say by the picture. Ill have to measure it at some point. Maybe just throw on a 6" setback jackplate and go from there. Where should it sit in reference to the pad? This way ill have an idea where to start from.

Without a low water pick up I'd say start 3 inches below the pad. Block off the 3 or 4 holes on each side on the water intake on the lower and you should be able to go higher. Just keep an eye on the water press gauge. Maybe Viper1 will chime in, I know he knows what they like.

I have a 1979 Enchanter with a 200 stock Merc no jack plate. Running a 24 p Yamaha drag prop and I'm getting 63 mph. So your in the ballpark.

I had this boat about 5 years ago. The 200 was rebuilt with some porting done, and carbon fiber reeds. I used a manual jackplate with 5-1/2 inches of setback. The engine was set about 2 inches below the pad, and i was using scoops on the intakes. This set up would run 72 with two aboard and the guy I sold it to got to run a little over 75 with one on board. I was using a Trophy plus 25 pitch.

I know you've gotten a few answers but figured I'd add mine. Mine actually ran 66 or 67 GPS with just me in it 2 years ago with on setback or jackplate with a 24P chopper. I think revs were 5800-5900. The prob is burried too..probably 5" or more below pad.

That's good to here that with about your setup running so good ckaluger with that little of setback. I have plans to add 5-6" to mine shortly. Were the scoops necessary or did you just put them on as a precaution? Also did you have any holes blocked off?

i have a 21, 97 pulsar w/a merc 225 jack plate 6" no low water picup 25/p prop shaft at centerline with pad i had my merc dealer h2o marine install little cups on my lower they are a merc part # like 30.00 they install over your stock intake. for me so far so good ,oh ya,,67 mph 5,700 super water presure, ask your merc dealer they will know:cheers:
