Ethanol and Outboards

I just read this . Did you know in the 80's Mercury marine conducted tests in cooperation with south point Ethanol? Over 12,043 hours were logged on 30 different engines in which 10 percent Ethanol blends were used . In no case did any of the engines expirence performance or material-compatibility problems.

How true this is I dont really know But I thought I would thro this out for all the outboard fans .

Fresh Gas

Its what the ethanol does after it sits in our fuel tanks for a while that we need to take issue with. Most of us don't have a choice but to run the same fuel we put in our cars and trucks, so as long as we try to keep fresh fuel in our boats we shouldn't encounter any problems. Just to be on the safe side I still add the Marine Formula Sta-bil everytime I add gas to the boat. I can truly say that in the last 3 years I haven't had any ethanol related problems (knock on wood)

I have been using Star tron in all my marine stuff havent had any problems with anything . 1oz treats 16 gallons of fuel I also run it in every tank . And it lasts 12 months . Alot of the stuff I looked at only last 6 months

Interesting

Were'd you read about that?

I havent had any problems either with my 87 blackmax but I use fuel conditioners also and my gas never lasts long anyways. My dad also hasnt had any problems with his 89 blackmax running crapy gas from the marina w/ no additives

My biggest concern is if they start adding MORE ethanol :shakehead:

I picked up a North American fisherman magazine and that was the first article in the magazine . Thought it was very interesting and dicided to post it since so many of us on here have outboards hanging off the back of our mates
