There is an test article in the march issue of Hot Boat magazine. They test approx. 20 different muffler tips. These are just added to the end of your through transom tips with simple tools very quickly. The best ones are by a company called Zoomers Exhaust, Ph.#(949)916-3240 $800 per. pr.. These were shown in the shoot out to be the quietest with the least drop in speed/horse power.

If you want to use a switchable system it will cost alot for the equiptment and involve a lot of labor. You usualy have to pull the motor to install the "Y" pipe to feed the exaust out the prop.. Then install the diverter "T"s and the actuator and control lines. The muffler tips are much cheaper and when you are in an area that you can have loud exhaust just take off the tips (5 minute job). Also I don't know were you live but in some states "switchable" exhaust (via. button on the dash) is illegal.

my father had the same problem with the local boys and picked up a set of baffles for his tips. i dont think they were the zoomers, but they did quiet it down a bit. he just tapped a hole in the underside of his pipes and they bolt right in. he also claims he didnt lose much horsepower. although i wish he did becasue im still having a tough time keeping up with him, i dont think i'll ever hear the end of it.
