Exhaust Modifications

Re. Mint 1977 Checkmate Convincor

Have fully restored this boat. However the mechanic that I was working with moved out of the area. I’m seeking recommendations for mechanics with specific knowledge of Checkmates. I want to modify the original Ford 351 Windsor exhaust system. Current system is rear riser through out drive. Very restrictive. I need a skilled mechanic to help install center risers with through transom exhaust pipes. I would also like to equip the system with silent choice or something similar for quiet running.

In addition, I have some cracking in the new gel coat done about 5 years ago back at the factory. So if anyone knows of a skilled person to fix the cracking it would be appreciated as well.

I'm located in the Tri State area ( New York, New Jersey, Conn)

Thanks :brickwall:

as far as your gel coat goes.. you'll fix it now, and in five years again.. look at it while its pretty.. and enjoy it when you can.. she's over 30 years old.. give her a break..

its a no brainer to install silent choice.. you could probably do it yourself.. just a couple of wires and a 4 inch hole (sorry ) 2 4 inch holes

I know that it can be done easily but cutting the holes and moving the riser's can be an issue. The riser's may be higher then the engine cover. Taking that into consideration with a possible bend in the piping ( 3" ) not 4" along with silent choice makes things interesting. As you might already know.. this is my baby... 30 years old and painfully restored. If this gets screwed up so can the cosmetics... So I really need someone that know's what they are doing.... whether a checkmate person or not....

Thanks for the reply

thanks for the reply. Yep I do think she is ready for a rest. I use her sparingly. As for the gel coat, I am well aware of the issues... I really should have described my situation more fully. I would like the cracks fixed but I have a porpoising problem and I know that the hooks fiber glassed in have to be modified. So what I really need is a guy that can do a really good job on the modification... any thoughts?

Thanks,

Scott

Fiberglass work!!

If you want one of the best fiberglass guys on the east coast try Sprout' Fiberglass Repair in North East, Maryland. Ask for David Sprout or Tim Sprout, they do superior work!! They are located right at the top of the Chesapeake Bay. Have seen their work and also used them numerous times!!
