Exhaust thru hull question

My 219 persuader 454 has thru the hull exhaust, and at slow speeds it sets a couple inches below the water. My question is id like to have it rumble all the time so I was thinking since it sets up under the swim platform I would replace the flappers with some tips that slightly curved upward. And if this would prevent the water flowing out of the exhaust i would have some made that would have a port hole in the bottom that would allow the water to still flow downward, but yet still allowing the noise to travel above the water. Is this a bad idea or not?? and where in michigan can you have tips custom made to acheive this. Im also thinking of this to try to save money from changing to much or to eliminate plugging the existing holes in the transom and moving the exhaust up only a couple inchs.
ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT...Thanks guys.
I can post some pics if that would help.

That is a real bad idea. At no time should the exhaust system be tipped up after the water mixes with the exhaust gases. A scenerio such a that will greatly increase the likelyhood of reversion. Unless you have developed some idea for dumping all of the water before the pipes bend up? CMI will make you any pipe you want, but I have never heard of any like the ones you described.

Post a few pictures, maybe someone will get an idea here.

More than likely you'd have to buy some taller risers or spacers if you wanted to raise transom exits. Always good to have a good downward slope from engine to transom. How about running a dry exhaust ? Maybe just have water mix at the tips ?

My opinion is to keep the tips where they're at. One of my favorite sounds on the water is hearing a boat idle while it rocks back and forth from the waves and the pipes are going in and out of the water. First port side then starboard then both tips out then port in then both in then both out...you never know, but I love that sound. I wish my tips were lower!

Sounds like I should just live with it, the way it is!!!! Its loud up on plane.

would if I replace the flappers with tips....allowing more noise to surface??:brickwall:

I would need to see some pics... the tips would normally be a bit longer, and is reccomended to put flappers on them also.. if your tips are already hanging a bit in the water i would not extend the tips.. you have other considerations ... abrubt stops,, backing the boat into a steep ramp.. i have to agree here.. leave it alone..

Leave it alone. That is a great set-up. Quiet at idle with sound on plane. Won't be too long and we will all have turn-downs to get the same effect that you get now. That is just the way noise laws are headed.

Yeah ive decided to leave it alone... I just like that start up at the boat ramp and everyone looks, or the slow idle thru a nowake zone with the rumble of the exhaust!:(

Thanks for the help!!!! its always nice to hear other peoples opinions on things, then i dont jump the gun on a stupid idea.:D :sssh:
