Hey guys just joined but have been lurking over the last year or so. We thought we were going to do a little cuddy but my wife gets motion sick and being below did not help one bit.

Just sold our Allison GrandSport so we're looking for something more open and family friendly. We like the Pulsare other than there is no swim deck. I'm an OB guy so going to a car motor is going to be tough for me. With that said we also found a Persuader that seems like it would be a really good fit. Has swim deck and sun pad.. .but has car motor... :eyecrazy:

I'd like to hear opinions..??

Here's a few pix of our Allison.

Good looking Allison! I am a fan of both car motors and my eggbeaters but I must say the fun of running an eggbeater is hard to beat!!

PS Ron your distributor looks funny and out of place! You should make a poll less cap for it or something.. :poke:

Thanks, the Allison is a blast but it's time for a change.

Appears that car motor need a LS coil swap... :)

There are manifolds out! Several options as a matter of fact. Our own Corey331 is building a bad LS motor for his 253 convincor currently. All of the swap parts are available. My next project will be putting a warmed up 5.3L in an 18' er

I know outboards like the back of my hand. Car motors are no big deal not are drives I just never been in the marine car motors. Something about a 2.5L V6 running 7000+ RPM that is just sooooooo sweet.

First off, that Allison is bad freaking A$$!!!! One day I will have a GS in my barn. Secondly, I will say that having owned both an eggbeater and a car motor boat, you can't go wrong either way. The reliability and ease of an O/B is pretty sweet, but seeing people about pee themselves when you fire up a loud I/O is pretty much priceless too. Either way you choose to go, you won't be disappointed in a Checkmate. It might not light the water on fire like that Allison does, but it will be a fun boat none the less.

As far as the LS swap goes, its easier than you might think. There are a lot of swap parts available and both headers and manifolds. I will be going with headers. Here is a link to my build thread. http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30203 It hasn't been updated in awhile, but that is about to change as parts have begun to roll in and some motor assembly is going on.

Thanks Corey. The GS is a blast but it takes a lot of nerve and seat time to drive it upper 90's +

I'll have to look into LS swap parts. A full aluminum 6.2 would be the ticket.

Take off LSA Caddy 1.9L Superchargers can be had pretty cheaply also. Thats an easy at least 557 hp (obviously thats factory conservative) and I imagine with an optimized build could be well over 600 hp. Even better if you can get your hands on the 2.3L vette supercharger.

Dude, pretty sure that was your Allison I saw on Powerboat Swapshop.
I really wanted to come look at it and Im not all that far away but to close
after xmas for me. Price was fair and it sold fast.
Always heard those Allisons were bad ass boats. Im still a car motor guy
all the way but I sure liked that boat.

Welcome aboard - you've got good taste in boats! :thumb:

Can't wait to see pics of what's next.

Thanks for the welcome guys. We're still on the fence of what "kind" of boat we want next. Needs to ride good, handle somewhat rough water well (river rough not ocean), be big enough that the kid (4yrs old) can grow into and not buldge over the sides. I'm almost leaning toward a big bow rider of some sort. At the end of the day I'll eventually buy another Allison to add to our "family" boat. My plan is a two seat, river layup XR01 drag boat with at least 300hp.

:welcome:Welcome to the Forum. Best of luck in your hunt for the boat that most suits your needs. You're definitely in the right place for input from knowledgeable and experienced owners.:thumb: Jim
