FS: 1987 Starflite, Evinrude 200, trailer

winter

Active member
Tough call, I really began to love this boat. It's rare that it works so well, but doesn't fit the bill for my needs. I'll be looking for an open bow someday soon.

1987 StarFlite, 1987 Evinrude 200xp, Loadrite trailer.

According to the dealer, the lower end has been completely rebuilt, the oil looks great and I had a new water pump installed two weeks ago. I installed new plugs and a module as well. Engine lights quickly and idles OK. Max'es out at 5400rpm's with a 14.5 x 24" Michigan 3 blade, not ideal, but hits a GPS verified 63 mph with one person and 1/2 tank of fuel and some extras. Got to 60 with 2 ppl and same load.
ALL gauges work (speedo, tach, engine temp, trim level volt, and fuel), trim works well, has manual jack plate, very good upholstery, decent carpet, floors and hull seem solid, windshield nice, bilge pump works etc... I'm sure I'm missing things.

Basically the mechanicals are in good working order. The battery is usable but it won't turn the starter over. However, the charge from the motor is excellent. The boat is cosmetically challenged. The deck and sides are a bit faded but the metal flake has not come through the clear coat. A good buff and polish should bring it back. The white sides are not as good and may need a shot of clear. There are stress cracks hear and there, and around the transom, but I've had many boats that had this 'option':D . The transom seems sound and doesn't show sign of flexing. The bottom is pretty decent but there are two small areas that seem to have been addressed with epoxy, as it chipped Gel perhaps. The rear wooden hatch covers are in poor shape, the engine cover looks OK, but should have a proper repaint done, and in general needs a thorough cleaning. But as a driver, this boat is ready to go.

The trailer works well and is in generally good shape. It should have tires soon and although the lights work, the one lens is cracked.

Two full covers go with, and used together, keep the boat dry. Neither is perfect. Essentially, this boat looks to be an easy project if you want a clean looking boat, but one can drive it the way it is for the summer. I'm asking $4500 and will throw in a new Battery for that price. It's located near Reading Pa. and I can assist with delivery if needed. I may consider some trades, mainly cars. Sorry for the lousy quality pics, PM me for more if interested, thanks!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE BOAT
ANY COMPRESSION NUMBERS

Not long, only since early in the Spring. The short details are: I work for our family owned German car dealership and another local dealership took this mate in on trade last fall. I knew he had it, but asked him to store it for the winter, as i had no indoor storage myself. I took delivery this spring and had it full gone over by a reputable Evinrude shop. I'll have to go over the receipts for everything, but the numbers were just under 100 in all cylinders with minimal deviation. The reason I'm selling is simple, I need an open bow. The fact that a Starflite came up for sale so close to where i work, and that it was priced right, I grabbed it in hopes it would fit the bill. I'm very tempted to use it anyway and try to resell next spring, but i know of a boat that will come up for sale sometime soon, as long as the boat he ordered comes through. I'd like to have the extra cash from this mate laying around so when it happens, I'll be ready.

One more bump, sorry. But i will be registering this boat by the weekend and using it, if there's no interest. It will however, continue to be for sale, as i need an open bow eventually. Make an offer, or trade me something!

I wish this was for sale last summer :brickwall: .... but the compression is a bit low I think....

have you tried craigslist or ebay??

According to the Evinrude dealer, these era engines were not of high compression. Since they've sold and serviced Evinrudes since the 60's, I feel pretty comfortable with their knowledge and the fact that the numbers came up good in their book. He also told me to run mid grade fuel, as they don't have enough compression to need hi-test :thumb: (re:cheaper!)
I don't really want to sell this on graigslist or Ebay, only because of the hassles involved, but that may be my next step. Then again, this weekend looks to be shaping up to be warm and clear, so perhaps i might keep it for the season.

Wow, I wish I wasn't getting ready to buy a house....I'd love to own my Starflite's twin! :) (minus the flake)

Now with all those toys in the garage, what's one more Starflite, huh?!:D Thanks for the bump... Any offers, trades anyone?

Whats your bottom line?
Trades what do you want?
jerry

I'm down from $4995 that i posted awhile back, to $4250. At that price, we're getting close to the bottom line. Trades? Tell me what you have and I could be interested. I'm fairly sure i'll be in the market for a Starliner once this sells, have one? :D Otherwise i need to generate some cash for one, but let me know what you have.

One last bump! I have an offer that's a bit low, but considering i need $$$ for acquiring the boat i really want, i'm thinking about it. But the guy isn't a Checkmate enthusiast from this forum :shakehead: . He just wants to look cool on the lake and try to catch girls.... wait, i guess that's not all that bad. Anyway, BTT! :D
