GPS Antenna Location

Gromet

Member
I'm ready to install a new GPS.

Of course there is the little 'dome' antenna module that needs to be installed in 'clear satellite view'.

Will anyone share where they have located their and how it has worked for you? I was thinking on the dash itself, but was concerned about the windshield blocking the 'satellite view'.

I think the dash area will be fine.
My older Garmin does ok with the small swivel antenna that in mounted to the unit itself.

I use a Garmin in rental cars when I travel every week, I just place the little black square magnetic antenna on the dashboard beneath the windshield and it works fine through the glass. I stopped putting it on the roof when I realized that it worked just as well placed on the dash. On the roof it looked a little more like there was something to steal in the rental car and I would probably not forget to take it with me when I turn the car in.

I have never used mine on the boat but I would put it on the dashboard under the windshield out of the way, nobody would bother it there. You should probably test it there without permanently mounting it first.
