Hackensack River (New Jersey)...

The wife and I have a 15 foot Checkmate which we usually take to Lake Hopatcong. With Summer around the corner, I wouldn't mind boating a bit more locally (We live in Clifton, NJ). After some google searching I came across the River Barge Park in Carlstadt, NJ. Supposedly, it's a brand-new park with a marina. Does this mean there was enough of a pleasure boat market to deem a brand-new marina or is this to attract pleasure boaters? Does anybody know the pleasure boat situation in that part of the Hackensack River or the Hackensack River in general???

It's good info. but I personally need an un-biased person who knows the "real deal" with the river. Anybody out there???

I am originally from Bogota. As a kid, back in 1962 I kept my boat in a marina in Hackensack by the Cedar Lane bridge. Back then we use to
go all the way down to where the Hackensack River met the Passaic River.
There was always a lot of debris in the river at that time. Rail road ties and logs were abundant. That was a long time ago so it does not help you now. I would think that the river has cleaned up since then just like all the water ways. I heard new marinas were going in. Don't hesitate toput in.
Take it slow, watch where you are going and enjoy. The next time you drop in you will have the experiance you need to venture further and faster.

"Patience is a virtue". I have to wait a few weeks, go there on a Saturday afternoon and check out the scene.
I'm not saying input from you guys won't be beneficial.

Not a common thoroughfare. Been living in Jersey on and off for 25 yrs. Boating my whole life. Never heard anyone talk about boating there.
That's probably all the more reason to explore.
Report back!:rof:

I agree with Sim. And with seeing your boat in BOTM thread earlier, you're the best person to check it out as your boat is ideal size to explore.
Most of ours are bigger, so I won't be rushing in there until I see a report.
