help with silencer removal!

Shameless

I am changing the sliencers on my exhaust to staight tips for better sound. Everything is done that I can do for now but remove one of the tips. The starboard side slid right out, the port side does not budge. It appears that there is a sealant tape that is holding it on. I was thinking a heat gun to try to break the seal, but I can't try that until tomorrow, my heat gun is at work. Does anybody have any ideas for me? Now I also have to take a trip to the hardware store to by mounting hardware that is not even close to fitting too.

As long as you're doing exhaust work, take a look at the EMI polished aluminum exhaust manifolds...MMMMMMMM sexy......and light weight!

1995 Pulsare 2100BR/1995 Mercury Promax 225 2.5 EFI/ 1.87:1 Torquemaster/ RapidJack Heavy-Duty manual 10.5" setback/ 23" Tempest (worked for hole-shot)

Not really exhaust work, fixing a mix-up at the factory, they put silencers on by mistake, so Kip sent me the correct tips for me to swap out.

Bill,
I changed my factory tips on my 259 Convincor. They were glued in from the factory ( as they should be ). The seal was tight. I don't know what kind of sealant they used but I could not break them free easily. I ended up having to knock them out with a hammer and a 2x4. A few light taps broke the seal.

Vinny, thanks for the input! I think silicone was running low when they built my boat, you should have seent he water coming in the drain plug hole. Yes Kip, the plug was in. I have pulled all the thru hull fittings, grab handles ect... to seal the holes. Like I said also, the starboard silencer, literally, fell out when I got the exhaust hose off inside. That is how I know that it had a tape adhesive on the backside of the tip becaues the paper protector was still on the tip that fell off. I will try the 2x4 with surpervision to kepp from taking things out on the boat

Bill;
You are right about the silicone sealer. The factory really laid it on my tips, but they did almost nothing to seal the holes where the hydraulic lines go through the transom for the trim tabs. I guess it was almost lunch time when they got to sealing my trim tab lines.
