HELP...

I need some EVINRUDE tech advice!

I have a 2002 Evinrude 225HO Ficht Ram V6 that was NEW out of the crate this year. I need to winterize it for the first time....

Is there a "SELF-WINTERIZING" mode to these motors and if so, how do I use it???

Is there anything else or tips you can share to winterize it correctly, water drainage, fogging oil, oil in cylinders, etc???

THANKS!!!

I would first add some fuel stabilizer to the tank, remove the motor cover and airbox cover. Install a set of cooling ears attached to the garden hose and turn it on. Start the motor up and let it idle until it warms up and then spray fogging iol(available from you're dealer, auto parts stores etc) in the throttle body at the front of the motor, it will smoke alot while you're doing this, thats ok, after about thirty seconds, kill the motor. Some people also pull the spark plugs and spray a small amount of the same oil into each cylinder, I don't do this, but it can't hurt either.Whipe up the exess oil on the motor and put the cover on . Drain the lower unit and add new fluid to the proper level. Remove the prop tilt the motor down all the way so it fully drains.I then wrap the lower unit in plastic wrap to keep mice etc out. Remove the battery and take it in the house, adding a good trickle charge overnight before you put it away would be a good idea.Grease up the zerk fittings on the steering tubes ond lower unit and the trailer bearings.Hope this gives you a few ideas! good luck.

i don't no if your engine has it or not, but on the vro pump there is what looks like a tire valve cap on the top (black) mounted to a red small plastic thingamijig. you can buy a can of fogging spray from your local omc dealer and it threads right on. just run the engine and spray following the instructions on the can and you're done. much easier then taking the air box apart and shooting into the engine. i'm just not sure if ficht technology uses the same vro pump

VRO valve

I have'vt heard of that Chris, Mine being an older 89 carb, it might not have that, I'm going to check though! Another thing I do for winter storage is to roll my trailer tires on some pieces of thin wood so their not sitting on concrete all winter, and check the tire pressure before you store it aswell.

Thanks guys... but WHO knows ficht???

I know all the regular winterizing routine, but I was told the FICHT had a system BUILT-IN to it's programming that allowed the injection to pulse extra oil to protect it for long storage intervals... something like turn the key on and off 5 times then start or something???

The few Evinrude dealers around me know the E-TEC's do this, but not sure about this 2002 FICHT??? Sure would be nice to know if it does or not??? Any EVINRUDE techs out there??? JIM

Evinrude

Jim, With an Evinrude, I would use a match. Just kidding, I never thought a 300x man would have a Rude. Dave

Even if it does inject more oil that oil will not help with winterization as it doesn't stick to all surfaces in the crankcase and cyls as fogging oil does it will just run to the bottom.

Hey Fargo AND Blizz

Dave... I hear you on the 'rude dude, but if you have a line on a brand new leftover in the crate 225 Optimax Merc for $5000 I'm all for swapping back to black!!!

Blizz... I totally agree on the crankcase... I did fog it down with two cans at once (was a challange with 6 throttle bodies)!!!
