How fast???

200checkmate

New member
I have a 1978 Trimate II and I wanted to know how fast it would go with a 2.4 merc 200? I have had motors on this boat already and the fastest I could get was 62 on Gps with a 2.0 150 merc. That was before I added a hot foot and a 6inch jackplate, but it i dont know what i'll gain.

Right on, another trimate. I have the same boat. Before the overhaul I was running a mildly worked 2.4L 200. The motor is running about 225 hp. I had a jack plate on the boat, but there really was no setback. Maybe an inch. Top speed with 2.1 gears and a 25P laser 2 prop was 69MPH, this was running light. The problem was I could fill fill fuel and put a cooler, 2 adults and 3 teenagers in the boat and still run 65 mph. 70 is about the limit of the hull it seems. That is why I added a pd to the bottom, I need more speed. I also added a 6" hyd jack plate. Have not tested the set up yet.

Thats good enough for me, when I was going 62 it felt tipsey I didn't really expect it to go that much faster. I drilled the mid section and took the can out so as long as it sounds good Im happy.

The boat was not real bad when I got the set up dialed in a bit, before that it was real hairy above 65mph. That is the main reason I installed the pad. Get the speed up, but more to add stability.
