I need a new carb...

1987 5.7 Chevy, Rochestor Quadrajet. You can read about why I need it under my other thread, "Louisiana Senator." I have already rebuilt it once, so I think now I am just going to replace it with a Holley or Edelbrock. Which one is the best for this application?

Also, will I have to modify the connections much to install it?

Thanks, guys, for all the help!!

Bill

Both are good carbs.

The holley IMO allows for more tuning & options and upgrades long term. The holley also genrally will need a special feed line, trottle cable bracket & adaptors to work on your set up. The edelbrock would be a little faster & easier to install in place of a Q jet, or weber.. The edelbrock is also a bit less than the holley. However the edelbrock has less tuning or mod options in comparison to the holley.

If you have a stock motor, which it seems it is, go with this carb http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-1409/ It's a marinized 600cfm.
I plopped this puppy on my old 202 Perusader 350 mag and it was drop on, fuel up and go. Then, when my 234 Persuader was giving me fits, i put the same carb, except a 750cfm on it, same thing, no adjustments other than idle. Some will rec. a Holley and that is the go-to standard, esp. if you have a modded motor. But for less money, the edelbrock works just as well 99% of the time. I did buy the calibration kit that i probably won't need, but it keep it in the boat just in case. The one reason i heard that i should go with a holley was that most motorheads know how to tune it easily if you ever have issues, whereas the edelbroack does use different means of accomplishing the same thing. Not everyone carries the calibration kit around with them (jets, rods ,speings etc) where Holley people might. No big deal, just buy the kit... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-1488/
