I/O Checkmate total rebuilds?

My Maxxum 229 has a couple of soft spots in it. One is in the engine compartment and one is under the driver's seat. How many of the I/O have to have a total rebuild usually when soft spots are found?

What does your outdrive have to do with rotted wood?

To the best of my knowledge I've got no rot on my 92 I/O.
The engine however has needed total rebuild.

Because I read somewhere on here the the I/O Checkmates didn't have as many problems rotting out as bad as the O/B Checkmates.
You did read that. I believe the reason to be most o/b mates are smaller boats that take on alot more splash and wetness from water sports. The larger i/o boats generaly stay drier inside. That all goes out the window if your boat wasn't stored correctly. They can all rot. you just hear of the smaller ones more often. And it doesn't help when they have the motor on the wrong side putting all that weight on a thin layer of plywood.
