Informal Poll on Wind Deflectors

Blue Mist '97

Active member
I posted a thread last year about the possibility of obtaining some hard to get parts (brackets) for Windaway wind deflectors. Well, I am trying to find out if there would be some interest if Windaway deflectors were to become available again?

This is sort of an informal poll to try to gauge if there is a need or desire from the Checkmate boating community for clamp on wind deflectors.

There are a couple of other companies that make wind deflectors, but they don't use the clamp on style. They require a handrail to mount to and if you don't have one, you have to drill holes in your fiberglass to mount them. Windaways can be attached to your windshield frame or directly to your acrylic windshield if there is no frame.

So, I am looking for input if you or a friend would be interested, might be interested or would not be interested in wind deflectors for your boats.

If you have a minute or two, I would appreciate a short response.

Thanks

Looks like my supporting membership has expired. I was not aware, but I will resubmit and post some pics.

I have no windshield and have the "handrail " style on my new boat. They work very well and I wish that I had them on my 283 that had the race fairing.

I would be interested in a set . I've been trying to figure out a way to make a prototype that requires no drilling into my windscreen. I will not be drilling or screwing anything so my plan is a very high tech plan as you could imagine hehe. :sssh::rof:

Oh yeah, they are probably made by Finney's in Havasu. They are good if you have a rail like your boat does.

Speaking of new boats, how is that new Howard doing? The conversion on my new Hallett is just about done. Heading to Havasu on Monday and should pick it up next week. I am going in completely blind as I haven't seen one pic of it yet. Yes, I am a little nervous, but I know it will probably be great. I can't wait to get it.

Well, I don't know how long it will be, but they could possibly be back in production fairly soon, if all goes well. Below is a pic of one attached to the acrylic windshield of a Hallett. Owner has used them for several years this way and has had no problems at all. I didn't know you could attach them directly onto acrylic. I thought you had to attach them to a frame until I was told. They are touted that way in the advertisements, but who reads that stuff anyway. Also says they are tested to 80 mph.

I want some for my boat but clamp on won't work and I don
t want to drill holes. Suction cup mounts would be great.

I might order these and see if I can make my own. As long as the studs are long enough I could cut the plexi, bolt on and attach to windscreen.

I have the same basic thing on my little Garmin gps. Sticks pretty good to the windshield in my truck, but occasionally it will pop off.
Wonder how well they would stick to the fiberglass and how they would hold with the buffeting from the windscreen? If they were down and behind the acrylic it might not be too bad. However, if the suction cup popped loose while at speed........ouch.

Might be worth looking into.

Heyyy, I sent some pics of a big hole in your boat.:D
Roger finney made all the windscreens for Sleekcraft and magic.
He made a lot of other stuff too.
He probably has a template of every windscreen ever made.

I'm interested in the low profile windscreen but it has same dimensions as the regular one.
Looking for a screen only 2 to 3" tall
