Jack Plate for 2100

I am looking for some advice on a jack plate form my Pulare 2100 br. Currently I have a manual CMC 6". With the 225 pro XS and 27 p tempest I have run a best Top of 77 MPH on GPS. Normally about 75-76.

Looking at a CMC 10" power lift (black of course) or a stainless marine 5" with 6" mini set back.

Any advice?

I run a total of 13 1/2" setback on mine. I also know some one who has 17" of setback on theirs. I'm not sure what's the optimum number is but from what I've been reading probably anything in the 10"- 15" range would be good.

What kind of rpms are you turning ? How's the holeshot with the 27 ? Is it a tempest plus ? I have a 25 Trophy and a 225efi it has great holeshot and topend. I'm always curious as to how similar boats are running with slightly different equipment. My speeds are down 2-4 mph from yours.(73.2)
 
I'm running 12" total. CMC 6" Hydrolic attacted to a stainless marine stand off bracket. I'm running a 1997 21BR 225 efi 26 trophy plus with the mid size vent plugs at around a 72-73 mph top speed so far.

ianz, keep the 6" cmc and get a 6" Bob's hydraulic and bolt it on between the motor and the cmc. works great! gives you more up and down adjustment and doesn't put any more strain on the transom than what 1 12" jack plate would. after you find the sweet spot, you can lower the manual jack plate to limit the max. height to the exact spot. boatman

Hope you've had a good winter so far.

As far as a jackplate/steback goes for you boat I would recommend a stainless marine 4-1/4" setback with five inch lift and an adjustable 6-8" set back, HDEX-686 extension plate from HydroDynamics.

One feature that I like about the Stainless Marine plate is that there is very little of the plate extending below the bottom of your motor's clamp brackets, like the CMC and Detwiler for example. The plates which extend far below the clamp bracket hurt planing times and coming off plane as the plate can act like a scoop and as well produce a spray. This is even more noticable on boats where the back of the pad is inset from the transom such as Allisons and STV's.

I believe that this will be a great combination on your boat giving you an adjustable setback from 10-1/4 to 12-1/4" and the versatility of a hydraulic plate to adjust the height for various loading conditions.

Chuck at HydroDynamics builds an bulletproof product and will custom build people just about anything. He will also powdercoat the jackplate any colour you want. (Black will look awesome on your boat.)

I've put some links to both products below. (Hopefully they work and as well as a jackplate article that was in Bass & Walleye Boat magazine which give the contact info for pretty much every manufacturer out there.

The 27 tempest plus works great. No problems planing off with either no load or a full tank of gas and 5-7 people. Top RPM are in the 5600-5800 range. I can't raise my motor any higher as I am at the top of the CMC manual lift. At full speed I still have about 18 psi of water presure. I feel I need another 1" of lift and more setback won't hurt. Goal -- 80 MPH on GPS or radar with a fully stock motor and boat, this should be possible at the top RPM of 6000. 3 MPH is a lot to gain from a set back but I should be close.

the 225 Pro XS seems to run about 2 mph faster than a std opti from what I can tell. I have tried a 25p tempest and have no problem turning it to 6100 but only runs 75. Lots of grunt!!!!!! :)

I like the CMC because it is an all-in-one unit. I am leaning towards a Stainless Marine with 7" lift and put a 6" mini in from for a total fo 10"

The Toronto Boat show is next week and I am going shopping.... Need a lift, Clarion Subs and a couple of quickrelease pin cleats.

Finally...

Looks like I am going with a Stainless marine 4" Jack Plate. The CMC was a close second due to price and integrated pump but I heard it may not have enough lift in the 10" version. Now the only problem is that Stainless only makes a 7" mini bracket. This give me a total of 11" set back.

What is everyone running for set back on pulsare 2100's

Hi Ian

I heard you were going to Extreme yesterday to look at a Detwiler lift did you make any decision?

I have a 10 inch CMC it works great I am going to add a dial control this year. I had a 12 inch manual when I bought the boat I didn't see any speed difference between the 10 and 12.

As far as lifts scooping water when in the down position they sure do. If you looked at Dwayne's Bullet you would have seen the plate he made for his Detwiler. If you look at this post of the plate I made for my CMC it will show you how not only stop the scoping action but also lower the time yo plane and it holds you on plane when at lower speed.http://checkmate-boats.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2286&highlight=planeing

CMC is not the ultimate lift but it is priced right and does the job well.
 
Stainless Marine makes a new Jack Plate mini set back bracket with a built in spray deflector to prevent water from entering between the bracket and jackplate. I believe the setback is 7". I looked at the bracket at the Miami Boat show and was impressed.....just a bit pricy!!

What do you think about 11" set back. I am worried that the boat will porpise at low speeds. Although I want top seed this is also my family boat and I have two small kids and do spend alot of time at less that 30 mph.

I think I am leaning towards the 7", I know it is pricy but it is also the best. did you notice if the mini setback had any built in lift to help compensate for the lose of height as your setback increases.

Stainless Marine

Stainless Marine now makes 2 different 7" set back brackets. One is the standard black one . The new one is white and includes a bottom skid plate to get you on plane quicker and it also has a negative tapper built in of about 5 degrees. Not sure the negative tapper is good for us.
 
:banana: Finally! After about 7 hours of work i got the stainless marine set back and jack plate installed. Truely Aluminum Art! The real impressive thing was the change in the boat. It now holds plane at a slower speed, Drives lighter and easier. Top end is a big question. The best previous speed of my boat was 77 on GPS in cold weather with a very light load and no gas. My first run with the jack plate produced 76 on gps with a full tank (bow cover on)

Over the weekend i ran with a 2100 closed deck with a 250 yamaha. Basicaly very similar setup both plusares only mine is a BR with a 225 Pro XS. We both run 27p tempest. With 3 passangers each I saw 75 on GPS and lost my race! only by a boat lenght in over a mile. We tried this about 10 times and more times than not the merc (mine) lost to the Yami. As friends watched this from a nearby boat they noticed that the Yami ran flater and mine way bow high.

Should I contact Boger for a Prop? Any one try a 28p trophy on a 2100.

I will post picts of the plate intall.

Open your wallet, (Like you haven't already.LOL.) and send your prop to Mercury Racing Propellers. Call Ron Steiner (920) 924-2034 and have them "lab finish" it. You likely gain two hundred RPM or so and they may take a little of the lift out of it. Maybe you'll have to go to a worked 28.

You're running 25 less HP, and I believe the BR are more weight than the Closed Deck. Where were you trimmed ? If you trim too high your bow will raise accordingly. Shoot your rooster no higher than 3-4'. This is about half trim for me. Yes prop work will help but setup is real important too ! How was the chinewalk ? Did you experience much ?

The Stainless marine setback has 4 degrees negative trim built in. Running WOT i was pretty close to full trim / full trim and reving about 5900-6000. Chine was a minimum (straight and flat) I was running the motor about 1 below pad, just about where I start to lose water preasure.

Apparently the 225 Pro XS is 246HP and the 250 Yami is 253 hp which makes both motors very close. The BR is acutally lighter than the closed deck by 25 lbs.

Still trying to find a 28 trophy to try. I think if i lab the 27 I will probably be in the over reving stage but maybe not.
 
I hope that you get it figured out to beat the yamaha. I wish I was there to watch the race. Maybe next time you could get someone to get it on tape.
 
I see Nada has the Br as 50lbs. lighter ?:eyecrazy: Even 7HP=2-3 mph. I bet you could get that back with some fancy prop work. My Tempest props were always 2 mph faster than the Trophy props but the holeshot and mid range was bang'n with the Trophy.

Hey Ian,

Did you try it with the motor about an inch lower? The reason why I ask is that when you put the numbers into the prop calculator, (not that it is an exact science) you've got a bunch of slip!! What did your motor look like in relation to the water? Perpendicular? How high was your roost? Shouldn't be higher than the motor when you are zipping along. Is your RPM from the analog tach or system monitor?

And you are right you would be over revving if you labbed the 27 Tempest, with that set up.

Oh yeh it has slip.... I have tried running it lower and higher with very little change in speed. I am trimed way to high in my opinion but that is when I have been getting top speed. Even with the lift high my rooster is apparently way about the motor. The yami guy was about even.
