jack plate?

The further you set an outboard back, the greater the strain on the transom.

another question about a jackplate. on an old predictor, would there be a benfit of putting one on? like a 4" setback and a couple inch lift? will it take away or ad to hole shot? im learning aswell.

I would recomend a jack plate. It really helps dial in the boat. You may not need a large plate, 4-6" would be great.
Make sure you install a water pressure gauge.

Get a water pressure guage, and maybe even a temp. guage, they are both way cheaper than a 4000.00 power head.
