Johnson 200 GT VRO startup procedure

Hello

Does anyone know Johnson's start up procedure for this engine? I don't have any problems starting the engine cold, but semi-warm is always an issue with the choke and idle lever. It's one of those things that takes forever to learn on your own through experimentation.

Here's what I do now:

Cold
1. pump both primer bulbs until hard (oil, gas)
2. idle lever to 3/4, choke (key)
Vrooom.

Warm
1. turn key. engine runs for 1/2 sec and dies
2. idle lever to 1/2
3. turn key, engine will not start
4. push in choke (key), turn key, engine is now flooded
5. idle lever to full, choke, turn key, engine eventually starts and races to 6000 RPM scaring the crap out of everyone within a 200 foot radius
Vrooom.

Hot
1. turn key.
Vrooom.

The next time you try to start it warm, pump the bulb 1st. .You might have the check valve in the primer bulb letting fuel siphon back to the tank.

Also, are you holding the key in while you try to start? That motor does not have a "choke", it uses a silinoid that pushes fuel directly into the crankcase. If you hold it in, the fuel pressure will flood the engine quick.

:brickwall: oops.

the old Merc 1150 had the choke button, so logic prevailed there when I switched boats

What year model GT-200? Those 1989-90 loopers are COLD natured. On the warm start procedure after she starts try bumping the key/choke and see if that helps keeping her lit.

Yep cu=87!
And dont forget rowdy's suggestions, give the bulb a pump. For some reason OMC's only like OMC fuel bulbs.
