johnson GT 175

my new pulse has a johnson GT175 on it.i havent ran it on the water yet but i have had it fired up, i dont know much about the GT175 can anyone tell me dos or donts or possible problems with this motor....Justin

all i can tell u is it is a 1990 and i havent picked up the boat yet but i paid for it,it runs good but i dont know what the relability is of a johnson gt 175

Justincase, That GT-175 is a pretty solid motor and is no more problematic than any other motor of that era. Just keep fresh synthetic lube in the lower unit. Is the VRO unit still hooked up and operational? When you look at it see if there are 3 or 4 wires coming off the vro pump. If it has 3 wires quit using it and begin premixing your fuel/oil at a 50:1 ratio(1pt oil per 6 gals gas), 4 wires and you should be ok. The 4th wire is an alarm wire and will trigger the buzzer if the pump fails. With the 3 wire setup you have no alarm and if the pump fails you wont know it until she locks up. Not trying to scare you but just the nature of the beast.

Thanks Costa, ive already decided to premix even with the alarm but thanks for informing me of the wiring

I premix mine also. I have the three wire pump and after a pump failure and a rebuild:pissed: I decided to premix and if I have a failure it is my fault not the pumps!!
