Killing the Engine

Hack

Well-known member
Weirdness: Started up the 'mate, 1995 219 Persuader, 7.4L Bravo1. Motored out of the canal into the lake. Got it up on plane, ran for a few moments, went to adjust the trim tabs and the drive trim, and the engine died. Got it started, motored back to the canal. Tried it a couple of times, each time I went to adjust either the trim tabs or the drive trim, the motor would die. Finally the motor wouldn't start. Luckily only a short distance from my lift and the son towed me in.

Let it sit for an hour, started right up. Tried the tabs/trim: Worked fine. Now I'm beginning to wonder what the heck happened????

Any ideas???

I would guess poor electrical connection, check both battery cables for security and condition. Sounds like high amp draw caused voltage drop too low to sustain spark

Hack, don't kill the engine. Save such urges for the local wake/tower boat crowd...
PS: Would that be 'What the heck", or "What the Hack" ?!

When my boat had the stock motor in it (same as your motor) it did something similar and it ended up being the coil. I was never able to figure it out till it finally went completely out. It's a cheap part that's easy to change, might be worth a try.
