Lake George,N.Y.

Hey guys, I am taking my fiance and my exciter, (actually they both excite me) to lake george this july for our (GULP) honeymoon. This will be our first time on lake george and I was wondering if anyone had any helpful hints, or interesting tidbits to contribute. We also would like to go to Lake Winnepesaukee N.H. this summer, if anyone has info for there also.

Lake George is a beautiful lake. Get a good map of the lake. The lake can be very tricky in areas. ie. rocks, islands, shallows. Can be difficult to navigate at night.

I noticed in previous thread that you have thru-hull exhaust. The lake patrols are very strick about noise levels. We were in Lake George in Aug 04. We stayed out of Lake George Village all day and weren't bothered. We entered the downtown area (we were on plane cruising slowly, away from the shoreline, letting 2 children watch the para-sailing) The lake patrol immediately came after us, and took us into town to the public dock for decibel testing. We failed miserably, and were ticketed. We chose not to be bothered with the aggrevation, and the boat stayed in the hotel parking lot for the remainder of the week.

We have heard alot of stories from other boaters, and most of our friends with high performance boats will not even go to Lake George anymore. I have heard alot of good stories about Lake Champlain, unless we hear otherwise, we are planning a trip there this summer.

thanx for the info john. How much was the fine? I've heard you also need to register with the lake patrol and get a sticker to run on lake george? Is this true? I know Lake Champlain is much larger, but from what I have seen, it is not nearly as clean. The southern bay looks pretty murky when I have seen it passing by on rt.4.? We already have reservations at l.george, so we will see how it goes. I am planning to take a day trip up there this spring to scout the marinas and get a map of the lake., so I should be all set. I just thought I could get a little info on here. Thanx again!

MISTERTOADIE, I DO MOST OF MY BOATING ON L.G. IT'S A GREAT LAKE, THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THE L.G. PATROL. STAY AWAY FROM THE SOUTHERN END WHEN HOT RODIN AND AWAY FROM THE SHORE LINE.YOU DO NEED A L.G. STICKER MOST MARINAS HAVE THEM.YOU CAN BUY A YEARLY OR WEEKLY.LOG BAY IS A GREAT HANG OUT SPOT. LOTS OF PLACES TO GO TO EAT AND DRINK.

Mistertoadie, RE: The ticket & fine, I sent in the ticket pleading guilty with a letter claiming ignorance to NYS & LG noise level restrictions. I never receive a fine notice, so I assumed the fine was waived. I was advised by the LG Patrol to do this. For the record, the officers were extremely nice throughout this entire process.

As 91 GTX said, you can buy a sticker at almost all of the marina's, and if you're loud, stay out of the southern part of the lake. (Lake George village) The Lake is beautiful, have a good trip.

As far as Lake Champlain being clean it just depends where you are. The water below the Lake Champlain bridge is "murky" because of the clay bottom. Once you get to the wider points of the lake it is very clean. (from Westport and up on the New York side)

There are no problems with speed limits or noise levels. I have a cottage on Willsboro Bay and some boats coming through are doing well over 80mph and I never have seen the Coast Guard give anyone a problem. (They do a lot checking during fishing tournaments) I love Lake George but for boating in that area you cannot beat Lake Champlain. You can also slow things down by going through the canal systems both south and north of the lake.

mistertoadie,

Since you seem interested in those big lakes up north, you should try Sebago Lake in Maine sometime. In '94, shortly after I bought the Baja 200ss that "wetvette" now has, we took up it there for a few days. We launched at a little place called Nason's Beach. It only cost a few bucks. You can go some great distances throughout that lake system. I'm sure there are plenty of other places to put in as well. If you do a little research, I'm sure you'll find it interesting.

you guy's are lucky to be close to so many great lakes me on the other hand, Im stuck in the Choptank river and Chesepeke Bay that salt water costs me alot of extra money each year so have a great HONEYMOOOOOON>>>
