Looking for 16ft Checkmate open bow

New member
I have been looking for 3 years for a 16ft to 16.6ft excellent condition Checkmate or similar open bow boat. No engine needed. I have a 115 Mercury for it. I have tried the Scream and Fly site with no luck.I am willing to travel. Hopefully this site will help me out. I see that there are some real nice boats listed here. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend, but if you are interested in a new Pulsare 1600 BR send me a PM and I will get you a price. Thanks Jeff

wickedrister has a nice 16' open bow for sale. I've been to his place and seen it. I'm looking for a good ski boat and thought it might work but decided I needed a little more room and more than 135HP. But if you don't mind buying the motor too, it's a sweet boat. He did a very nice job on the restoration.

What kind of boat is it and where are you located. At this point I am willing to look at most anything. I may even consider buying one in bad shape and getting it restored.

tfret,
I found the boat on this site. It looks like it is sold but that would be exactly what I would be looking for. If you see any thing else please let me know. Thanks much!

There is a:

1983 CHECKMATE 16' PREDICTOR SKI BOAT,
1995 MERCURY 115 HP, POWER TRIM,
YACHT CLUB TRAILER 13" TIRES

for $5,500 in Davenport, IA

I looked at this boat this past weekend and it's not that bad. There is some fading on the dash and I did notice some stress cracks by the transom, but not sure if this is common or not. The boat needs to be detailed and I think it would shine up real nice. The seats were also redone last year. The color is all black metal flake with red interior. The dealer is willing to sell the boat without the motor and will take $2,000.

Good luck!

Hey, I just sent you a PM for that phone# you were looking for.

Where you located? How far are you willing to travel to look? About how much are you looking to spend? Do you have any particular year, make, color, and is an Outboard the only preference? I look everyday, and already have a folder saved with a ton of Checkmate boats for sale. Once I know a little more about what you’re looking for, I will post some links to this thread of what I find that may be of interest to you.

I am in the same boat as you. I have been looking for a mint older Checkmate boat for about 3 months now. It has been a real task. Not much out there especially close to home. I have a deposit on a 79 Exciter right now in Rock Island, IL. I didn't want to pass this one up; since I am finding that it is very hard to get what you want. The boat is not as mint as I wished, but it's not that bad either. I figured I would buy it and then keep looking to see if something nicer comes up that I am specifically looking for. If it does, I may just buy the next boat and the sell the one I just bought. I am already in the market for a newer motor, a Mercury 225 Optimax. I want fuel economy with power and speed. Now I just have to find the perfect boat to put it on. This motor bran new can cost as much as $17,000! I search every day, and may already have a sweet deal to pick up a used one for $6,000!

If you search hard, talk to people, not to mention using this awesome forum, you will eventually find what you are looking for!

Oh and by the way,

:welcome:

to the forum!

Bob,
Thanks much for helping me out. I live in southeastern Wisconsin between Milwaukee and Madison. I would be willing to take a 2 day ride. One there and one back. Hopefully that should work. As far as price, if the boat is right I would be willing to put up $5000. I have a nice 115 mercury and trying to keep the boat at 16ft to 16.6ft. That should push that type of boat very well. Do you think I should be able to get something pretty nice for that price? I am really new to this site and just finding my way around. I think your right about this whole process. It will take time but I believe that if I stay with this I will find something eventually. Your help is really appreciated.

Thanks much!

Mike, check the following thread out. I am not sure if this boat is still for sale, but it is in your neck of the woods. It's an oldie, but nicely restored. I know you said you were mainly looking for open bow, but you mentioned you may consider anything. I think a 16 foot open bow is going to be a little tougher to find then a 17-20 open bow. I have some more links to come.

I never did like the checkmate models where the nose tipped up at a higher angle. I started liking them when the base of the windshield was higher than the base of the bow. The old MX and the newer Diplomat boats above show the progression of the design........
