mercruiser 6.2 mx mpi speeds

Can anyone tell me what kind of speeds could be expected out of the merc 6.2 mx mpi motor in a 22' boat. Also what prop would be suggested. I run a 21 turbo on my checkmate with a 350 mag (carb motor). I have never owned this motor in a boat. it is a stock motor in a powerquest 22 raizer. Don't worry not getting rid of the old mate just another toy!!

Thanks in advance!!

Depends on the hull and the weight and the deadrise , i would think anywhere in the low to maybe mid sixties . i have a 08 zt240 which has 22 ft of hull and have seen low sixties(60-62) light load, nice tight chop ,23 pitch. I like the 6.2.

thanks for the info. that is what i figured. A salesman that I have talked to about this boat said 68-70. Thought that was a little on the high side.

Yea.....low sixties is my guess......that is still a small block after all. Powerquests are a decent hull......better than a baja....not quite like a mate

Well now it looks as though things are changing. We are going to look at a checkmate zt 240. Same 6.2 motor though. What is everyone opinion on this boat with the motor. Above it was mentioned a 23 pitch prop, Does everyone agree that this is the best prop. I know that on my 20' senator I run a 21 turbo. Does anyone have any thought as to the right set up for this??!! I am also looking at what can be done to increase proformance on this motor as well. What brand prop are you guys running?

IMO the 6.2 320hp is ok in the zt240, it was not to long ago the 7.4 big block was 310 hp . however it depends how fast you want to go, I bought mine as a leftover and really liked the colors and price about mine more than anything else, with the bravo drive you can upgrade. You can maybe find a good deal on a like new take out big block. i thought about that ,but im ok with going 60. One thing about the zt240 its more of a mini offshore than a family ski or fun boat , i had the zt230br and its got way more room. as far as the 6.2 performance mods not sure other than a blower, its got forged internals so im sure it could handle low boost. my boat came with a 1.65 ratio bravo and a 25 pitch prop , i could only pull 4500 rpm so i tried a 23 pitch and now its about 5000. If you run in rough water the zt240 is a great boat easy to trailer and nice ride . if your on smoother water the zt230 is a great choice, i think there both a great choice. good luck

Thanks for all the info, sounds like a 23 pitch is the way to go for now or atleast till the day comes that I can upgrade motors. If anyone has anything else to add send it own please!!
