Modify Windshield?

Has anybody else ever attempted to modify their windshields like Chucker did on his old Trimate? It really looked good and gave the boat a sleek look. I was looking at dropping the angle on the windshield of my 83 Exciter and shortening it up a bit. I need to install plexiglass on one of the damaged front panes anyway and was considering dismantling the entire aluminum frame, cutting and dropping the angle for a more sleek look, then replacing all the remaining glass with tinted plexiglass or lexan. Looks like the aluminum frames are only held together with rivets.

It really is not that hard I had to basically rebuild my windshield from scratch. You are right all you have to do is drill out the pop rivets and the frame dismantles I ended up buying pexiglass that was so dark that you cant even see thru it. But it gives off an awesome reflection-like looking in a mirror. You can see pictures on overhaulin 80 sportfire rebuild. Hope this helps

Re:

Your windshield looks great, where did youi get the dark plexiglass and what thickness?. I am scanning EBay for windshields, hopefull to find something I can modify and install while keeping my original as a spare.

Taz is right, all you have to do is drill out the rivets to get it apart, make your mods, then re-rivet it back together. I didn't have the option of replacing my windshield because of the compound curve. If you end up cutting your current plexi, be very careful...Take your time. It WILL crack if you rush it. Taz did indeed do a great job on his windshield...Looks awesome. Good luck with your project.
