more water from one tip than other

Today i had to winterize the motor in the senator,so i hooked up the muffs and fired it up ,to let the lake water run out and get fresher gas with stabil in the carb. For some reason water was more prodomanite on the left side than the right. There was a little on the right, but not much. When i drained the pit cocks the right side had very little water on that side of the motor.I did pull the water pump hose first.Ran great, but might have pissed off the neighbors ,it was a little early this morning.BIG BLOCK 9.5 TO1 ,LIGHTNING HEADERS,NO SILENCERS. OPPS. THANKS JOHNZ85

make sure you take a nail or something long and stiff and shove it into all the petcock holes and make sure 99% of the time some sand and rust has lodged into that area not letting the water out. (i've winterized 6 i/o's this season all with clogged petcocks!). i'd also strongly suggest you pour some non toxic antifreeze through the block and exhaust hoses to make sure the water is out.

you are on the verge of making a VERY, VERY expensive mistake!

chris ido the whole anti freeze thing every year, change the oil,in motor and drive.it just puzzled me that one exaust tip spit more water than the other. Not sure if it helps but i took the spark plug off the coil and gave the motor a few cranks torun the anti freeze through the block .I also always open the pit cocks to just make sure antifreeze comes out,and it did on both sides.Since i store my boat outside i put a long life light bulb in the hatch just to give the block a little heat when it gets 20 below.Ihate to say those words, damn i miss summer.thanks johnz 85:thumb:

My big block is the same , more water from the left than the right when on the hose . When I'm out on the water , I've checked the temp. of the exhaust manifolds with an infared thermo. and they were within 20 degrees of each other .

i think on the hose the engine doesn't get up to 100% operating temperature cuz the water pressure is something like 60psi, mabee the t-stat doesn't open all the way on the muffs and thats why the water comes out more on one side then the other.

still, check all those drain cocks with something solid to make sure all the water is out

i'm thinking the water is taking the path of least resistance.. it is very common for engines to spew a bit more water out of one tailpipe than the other at idle.. once you kick it up a bit the flow should even out.. if not than i'd say some blockage is occuring.. its 80 here and were going boating.. i feel sorry for those that have to lay up for a few months.. seems a bit unfair.

Did you bring the boat up to temperature, the crossover with the thermostat should be hot enough to open and circulate. Also make sure your header hoses haven't heated and bubbled or pinched themselves shut. Antifreeze is a must

JOHNZ85... READ THIS!!!

If you have the factory MERCRUSIER thermo housing, it uses an internal ball & spring set-up for pressure balancing between the manifolds. It is likely that it has decayed to the point it is not working or stuck. It is a COMMON issue that is very overlooked and can lead to exhaust manifold cooling issues!!!

Just pull the thermo housing and check it out before spring... Jim
