Need help for Checkmate Trimate version ?

BoatDoc

New member
Hello, all. Don here.

I have recently acquired a 19 ft. 1978 Checkmate Trimate version ? open bow with 175 HP Mercury Black Max outboard motor.

I would like to restore this boat but am having a lot of difficulty getting my questions answered, which brings me here. This is my first boat restore but I am mechanically inclined. I repair autos and even restored a 1985 Jeep CJ7 that was written off as scrap and now is my daily driver. With that being said, here are my initial questions:

- I have the hull number but can't find info on what version this boat is.

- I would like some kind of manual or online info on what I have. I do have a Clymer manual on the outboard motor but am seeking something for the boat itself so I can put it back together properly from interior floor repair to wiring, etc. I would even like links on this site addressing these if someone can direct me there.

It is my understanding as of today that Checkmate Boats is out of business and in the process of being bought by another company. Currently, everything is in limbo and I cannot even get to the manufacturer for info. I have called everyone that I can think of and just need pointed in a direction so I can get the materials I am seeking.

Any help or advise/links would be greatly appreciated.

I have another question (already). My boat is a 1978. Is there a span of years that pertain to this boat? For instance, my Jeep CJ7 is an 85 but uses parts from 76-86. I am working on the interior - floor, etc. first.

Thanks again in advance.

Don
