New Gauges

Installed a few of these Teleflex/Sierra Amega gaugeswhen I got the boat and have been waiting for an excuse to replace the rest. When I swapped to a Merc I had to switch to a Merc style trim gauge but when the old tach stopped working I had to do the speedo, waterpressure, and fuel level while I was at it. Not bad for some relativelyiinexpensive gauges. My only complaint is they don't come with any covers for the bulbs and they're too damn bright.

Nice dash John. The gauges look good. I like the set up you have, With the trim controls on the helm and the hotfoot on the floor. I bet it is so much more fun and easy to drive that way.Would that type of throttle work in an I/O ? The instrument on the right, shaped like a rectangle is what ? A dept gauge? Again, Kool set-up.....Rich :thumb:

Looks great! I think you can buy bulb covers at most auto parts stores that will cover 194-size bulbs. Also, AutoMeter makes bulb covers to cover 194-size bulbs (came with my AutoMeter gauges that I bought for my Mustang).

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Nathan - I'm going to try to find the red bulb covers before I bust out the spray paint. :)

Rich - I don't see why you couldn't use any or all of the controls I do. The foot throttle can be a pain in the arse when you need to stand up to see over the bow and your foot can get tired on a long cruise. The rectangular gauge is a depth gauge that was there when I got the boat. It's old but it still works.

Local speed shop has the Autometer covers at 3 for $3, so it'd be $9 bucks. Buying a can of red paint is $5 plus the mess, waiting for them to dry, and not being able to undo it if I don't like it. :thumb:

Worried the LED route might be too bright but might try them anyway. They'll match good when I run the LEDs under the gunnels.

Damn buddy! You think I'm made of money like the Geico guy? :D Almost $80 between the LEDs and that contraption.

Are all the gauges too bright or just a few. If you want to dim all of them you could wire in a simple rheostat just like the dimmer switch in your truck. You could probably pick on up at radio shack for 5-10 dollars.

:bigthumb:Just trying to save your cheap azz some $$$$. It looks like you will be paying out plenty for the BOTM votes you're buying this month.

no it is just easier to spend other peoples money. there are cheaper dimmers but they come from overseas. plus that since you were not into the paint idea I figured I had to kick it up a notch!! :rof::devil:

Thanks Matt. Picked it up for dirt when my friend was closing his shop and never got to put it on the car it was destined for. Turned out it had the same 5 bolt pattern as the stock Checkmate wheel. Gotta get over to the local hardware store and replace those rusty allen screws with a set of stainless ones. When my friend makes the new bow cover its going to have a 1 inch carbon fiber look material border all the way around. Should tie in nicely with the wheel. When I get the interior done I'm going to have the black inserts replaced with CF ones as well. Little by little it's getting there.
