Hey all,

Awesome forum you have here. I have been looking for a boat for a couple of months an fell in love with Checkmate metal flake. I was looking through pictures and really like the sportfire, exciter, diplomat and enticer stylings. My only problem is I really want an I/O not an outboard, and they seem to be pretty few and far between. A closed bow is prefered aswell. Wouldn't mind a boat that needed a bit of work either, like a project that was started but never finished.

Just wanted to say hi and thanks in advance for all the useful information this site contains.

Thanks
Fred

Welcome Fred!
Whereabouts are you? The I/Os are a bit harder to find, but do some craigslist searches around your area, I know around here Ive seen about ten I/Os over the last year or so.

welcome, there have been a few on craigslist, i'll see i can find my old boat. the guy that bought it from me in january has it for sale again......its a awesome boat.

Thanks. I saw this one a few days ago. There is also one with a OMC that has a knock that I inquired about. Are there any performance parts you can put on the 470? How fast did that boat go? I know if I am really worried about speed I should just go with an outboard.

Is there any correlation to Outboard HP to Inboard HP and speed?

I am from the Oxford/Lake Orion area.

Thanks
Fred

I just seen one in grand blanc forsale if you really want I can get the info on it for you. I may be able to get a picture for you also.

that would run about 50-55 with a 23pitch stainless and 2ppl. it has a 2bbl carb and they have a kit to change them up to a 4bbl. i never did because it ran awesome. then inside of that motor looked spotless. it only had 100 or so hours on it when i sold it. i like i/o's. outboards are loud and smelly....lol

yeah well..... you are loud and smelly ;) j/k Never met you.

That would be cool if you could get some info on that boat in Grand Blanc Wizard.

Did the guy who bought your boat pay more that $3300??

Grand rapids craigslist has a few Checkmates on there. I personally like Merc drives, I have never owned an OMC drive, but friends have had them and they had more problems than I have seen with the Merc drives. Might want to research it yourself.

i auctually sold it to him for $2800. but it was in the winter. i knew i could have got more if i held out till spring. also it was great on gas!

I am going to look at an Eluder tonight. It has a 175 Merc on it. Is there a good way to check the floor and transom, besides just feeling or knocking for soft spots. What should I look for a an outboard to make sure it is in good shape. I don't expect the boat to be in great shape since they are only asking a grand for it.

Thanks for the pics and info Wizard. Newer and a bit bigger than what I was looking for. I really like your old boat 81 enchanter. I was hoping to spend around $2 to $2500. Do you have any old pictures of it?
