Hey All, I went to see this yesterday: http://orlando.craigslist.org/boa/5848220003.html

Guy is looking for 7K.

Pros:
Mechanically it looks very solid
Newly built Engine (340HP)
Outdrive overhauled
New (Exhaust, Cables, Bilge)
Trailer is a 'buet

Cons:
Seats are nice, but the dash needs completely redone.
Paint will need redone in a couple years, starting to crack on the bow cover

Appreciate it All!

My opinion is black boat in Florida, are you a glutton for punishment! Savage burns. My blue Enchanter gets hot enough. I'd check the floor really well, especially under the bow.

Check the core for softness. You can feel a decent size area of the core in the ski locker.

That's a respectable price if everything Checks out. They can be had cheaper but if the gel is good, floor and transom are good and it's a new motor I'd say go for it.

Make sure the seller can provide proof of the engine build along with any warranty coverage. (Is it transferable?) Contact the builder. Also why do the pipes look like they have been extremely hot? Too close to the hatch or something else? ...Nice looking boat

Well to update you guys. I went for a lake-trial today with the wife. This thing is straight pipes so of course she thinks it's too loud :( Factoring in mufflers, bimini frame and canvas, interior updates... passed.

She wants another bow-rider and thinks this thing looks old! Ain't nearly as old as me I'm thinkin!

I did knock around the whole hull and floor, checked the tank, it's a very solid boat. Ran like a scalded cat. Owner came back a few hours later with 6,500. Tempting.

Nice boat. Prepare yourself for admiring glances, affirmative nods, and looks of admiration from those surrounding the dock and such. This type of interest often starts right in the driveway and will extend to the drive to the dock and even out onto the waterways. When parking the vessel inside the garage, move your truck outside to the driveway and not her car, if possible. If you should find a neighbor that disagrees with the wonderful sound of an unmuffled v8, idling on the hose in the driveway, savor and cultivate that relationship. Be ready to identify the type of vessel, it's year of manufacture, length, width, size of engine, relative rarity, and the fact that it is a Checkmate, for you will get these questions along with all of the admiring looks. Prepare yourself to become interested in propellers, specifically, pitch and diameter. On a side note, always, without exception, make double sure that the rearward opening engine cover is latched properly. In lieu of this, attach a rope and float to the cover, and affix a 'Property of' sign, and carry a spare set of underclothing covertly placed within the vessel.. It will be so much easier to recover it from the bottom this way. The opening of the cover at speed will be somewhat controversial in nature. Even if you jump in to save the cover, you will quickly realize that one can only lift around 10 lbs or so when in the water. Enjoy.
