Please help the noob - 13' Checkmate

Hello all, hoping you can help a newbie here. I sold my last boat, a 29' offshore, and of course I'm now itching to have "something" to monkey around with. I was scanning the local Craig's list and found this:

Guys says its a 13' Checkmate, no motor, no interior. I think the price is a bit high, but we can work on that. I've never done much "project boat" type stuff on my 3 previous boats, but I've always wanted to - just didn't have the courage to start tearing into a $50K boat (maybe I should say, "explaining to the Mrs why I'm tearing up her $50K boat!" :D ) I'm thinking that something like this would make a good platform on which to learn. And if I can get into halfway decent shape, my daughter (currently 6) could conceivably use it for her first boat, under proper supervision, of course.

So, any advice? Many thanks in advance!

If that thing was within driving distance I know I'd be all over it for $250 if the hull and transom are decent. Slap a cheap interior in it and go!

Hey the trailer should be worth the $250 he's asking for the whole rig. That would make a good play toy for your daughter with a little work from dear 'ol dad. Good luck and send some pictures when you're finished.

I had a blue metalflake mx-13 w/ a 40 merc for my first boat when I was 9! I used to get in trouble in school for drawing pictures of my boat rather than paying attention. Very fun little toy, definitely worth 250..:thumb:

sounds like it could be a killer little first boat---i know my ten year old son would be drooling to have at it with that checkmate along with his younger brother and sister----go for it!!!!
