Prop Question

I'm getting my boat back from the shop next week after installing Hydr. steering, Bob's hydr. jackplate 6", and a Bob's LWP nosecone. I have a 24" mirage "Labbed" prop. Which I'm told will give a good enough hole shot for skiing. I'm thinking of switching props when I need to, using a higher pitch for top speed for the times I don't ski. I need to know if my set-up can handle say a 26" labbed prop and is it worth spending the extra $$$ on having the prop labbed. I hear it gives you about 1.5 mph more on the top end. And am I right to assume that this set-up will turn about 74 MPH top end.
PS, I have a stepped hual so I only went with a 6" setback.
PS, Sake, thanks I took your advice, from a few months ago, on getting the jackplate. Sorry to hear about the boat hope you get back on the water soon. Thank God knowone got hurt.

Get the boat back and run it. Did you install a water pressure gage?
See what it will do after you get the set up dialed in. You may need to go up in pitch to keep from over reving the motor.

Yes, I got all the gauges. I higher pitch prop would lower my rpms I believe? I'm thinking I'll be up around 6K with the 24" labbed prop? Well I'll find out next week and take it from there.

I agree with 175checkmate. With all the things you have changed you need to do some testing with the setup you have before you buy a different prop. Test with just your self and with people on. You get 4-5 adults in there and it makes a BIG difference. Good luck!

Jim

Good point jkeiper, I could have easily missed that varible. Thanks

Don't be surprised if the boat is slower than when you took it in for all that work. A nose-cone lower unit on a big heavy starflight might not work. You'll have to let us know the before and after speeds with this setup!

JW, I had no gps before and the speedo didn't work very well. I've heard that the break-even on the nose cone is about 75 mph, so I shouldn't loose more then about a half of a mph. I plan on doing some mods to motor this winter bringing it up to about 260 hp , which should give me a top end in the upper 70s, which should make up the loss. The only reason I got the nosecone was for the LWP.
