PROPosing another Prop question...

Ya what really got me is I have a friend that has a 27 Advanti. We were running wot and he was sitting there holding a drink and I was bouncing around like a jack rabbit.

I'll put some more time in this boat and decide in the fall if I will sell it or not.

Thanks
Russ

I know exactly what you mean. It is the most annoying thing to deal with. I don't mind "driving" a boat. But when the water is calm like a mill-pond, and you have 4 people on-board going for a long cruise, there's nothing worse then the ever-going 'bounce bounce bouce'

That's not "driving" a boat, that's fighting a losing battle. It just should not do that. period.

Yes it might be a faster hull, but not when you can't go WOT without having the tabs all the way down, trim down, and only 1/2 tank of fuel. No range, loose speed due to the trim setting and burn more fuel with the drag.

My friend gave me an idea to try to help the issue which I am going to try this weekend. It sounds silly - so I won't even mention it until I try it and if it works.

Wish me luck.

sMac,
Honestly, it's not that hard to control. Keep on it you'll get it. By next year, you won't even remember it. You'll probably have harder time, since you have less hp, but I know you'll be fine. Try that Bravo...

- Craig,

Thanks again. And I will try a Bravo.

But I gotta mention, I've owned this boat for over 10 years... and put on a heavy 70-100 hours a year with it.

If I can't tame it by now, I don't think I ever will.

Maybe this new engine (less HP then before) is making it worse. I didn't seem to mind so much before. Now I really do. Or, it's the different style of boating I've been doing this season. Since I keep the boat on a lift in the front yard, I seem to take it out on really calm days. Whereas before, I took it out on the weekends and always had waves to deal with.

maybe a 30' Convincor will solve the problem????

sMac,

Yea, you might be a little underpowered.

I keep thinking of similar situations as yours that I have encountered…I have a good friend who use to have a 240 Baja Sport (I think Russ mentioned he has one also) and he only had a regular 454 (300hp) It porpoised bad. That is normally a very easy hull to drive. We knew we needed to find the right prop. Was very hard to do. Tried various Mirages at first. Did not work. Even threw on some Turbo Vectors. The Vectors weren’t bad, they helped a lot. But, best prop ended up being a Bravo. Although, he still bounced a little with the Bravo. Just not enough HP. His top end was not quite 60 mph. What ended up working, in combo with the Bravo, was for him to trim up just a tick onto “trailer” mode. Once he got there, he could back it back down and it would hold.

well, I noticed the porpiseing on my 22 convincor i had a 25p mirage and replaced it with a 4 blade 25 cabellas and gained 3 mph and much better control less porpiseing. i do as craig says as soo as i notice the porpiseing start I gun it and it sets right down.have really learned to drive the boat and usually just keep it out of porpise range but it happens on occassion so just gas it bring it back and its fine..I agree also I had to learn to drive my convincor but after I did it was fine. Hope you guys work out the kinks.
