Pulsare 2100 - 300XS vs. 250XS

Bluehealer has a 300x on his Pulsare. He'll be turning a Trophy Plus 28 next year. I'm sure we can get some figures when the water softens around here.

I've rigged the 21's with both motors. The 250xs will run 82 on GPS,92 on the Mercury speedo. The 300xs with a stock torquemaster does'nt run much faster, BUT, if you have a hydraulic jackplate and a noseconed case or a sportmaster, you can see 90 on GPS. This is providing you can drive it! The Checkmates are a real challenge to drive over 80 until you learn how to drive it. Even then, the 300X on mine was real handful. My forearms were killin me after a couple miles. I'd stay with the 250XS and regular fuel and a Torquemaster case. That being said, I'd never run anything but the 300XS on a 24 Pulsare. I sell the 250 XS for $14,900 and no tax if you're outside of Fl. I'll ship anywhere. The 300XS is $16,500

Mine ran a tad past 90 gps with 300XS, TM case, 14.5" setback and 29 Tempest. I had hydraulic steering really helps alot, makes it alot easier....just had to be careful.

I never tried a SM on that setup......but on the previous one I had for quite a few years - that one ran in low 80's with SM case and high 80's with TM case.....So I went with TM case on this last one.... Wildman I thought I emailed you early this year about which case to buy and you said TM was 3-4 MPH faster??? Maybe that wasn't you?

I'm still not positive with the 300. My 21 was 4-5 mph faster with a noseconed TM than the Sportmaster. I did have a hydraulic plate though and could jack it up. I ran a new boat with the TM with no cone and could'nt get it past 82. I did not have a hydraulic plate on that one though.

I had 14.5” setback total….I set mine up so I could jack it all the way up while running and it would stop at a point where it was around 1”-1.5” below pad…let’s say 1.25” below probably. That’s where I could get 90, with very little trim….If I remounted the motor higher, so it could get up even with the pad it would start to lose speed….I would need more trim…wasted power.

On my other Pulsare with 8” setback you could really feel the SM doggin, needed a lot of trim, can’t remember prop height, but I remember it needed to be pretty high. Would run low 80’s (82,83 gps)….With a TM it would run faster…85+ but needed to be a little lower I remember. So with this latest Pulsare I went with the TM…If you talk to merc and describe the Puslare they’ll say go with a TM….but need to try all different case/setback/prop height combos I guess…
