Question For Diplomat OB Owners

What motor are you running, is it 4 or 6 cylinder, how fast does it go, and how does the hull handle the weight of the motor and speed? A friend is considering a repower and is worried the weight of a 6 will be too much be it a relatively light 2.4 Merc or heavy 3.0 Looper.

Wanted to add the boat is currently running the original Johnson GT100 and is rock solid. He is the original owner and the boat is garage kept. He's basically trying to decide between a bigger 4 cylinder or smaller (150'ish) 6.

Thanks.

John

I say go for the 6, my Eluder is only 18" longer and not much different, only difference is the nose is longer, from the windsheild back it's the same, 8" setback isn't enough for my 2.4 and its begging for a 3.0.

Thanks. He's not looking to wring every last mph out of it but just to get some more out of it after having it set up like this for 25+ years. I think a 150 Yamaha or OMC would be a nice package for what he wants to do. If it were me I'd hang that looper on it that I have sitting in the shed but I can understand that's a bit more than he's looking for. I think a 2.4 or 2.5 Merc would be a good fit too. I'm leaving the 2.0 Mercs out of the equation because they're actually a little heavier than the 2.4/2.5 is. If he's only going for a 150 I don't see any point in going with less cubes and more weight. Seems counterproductive.

I've had both a 2.0 and a 2.5L V6 on the back of my Predictor, a Diplomat is the same length but a wider beam for more flotation in the back, so it should hold a V6 no problem. I have an Eluder, too, the 2.5L V-6 goes great on there.

Seems like a 2.4 or 2.5 Merc is the way for him to go. I'll see what he says when he gets back to me on my emails.
