Saw this on the OSO beautiful 30!!

You cant really compare a Checkmate to many other brands like Cigarettes. A Cigarette will stomp a Checkmate in the ground on resale and build. These boats are heavy and can crush 5 foot chop and never miss a beat. The one I like most is the Cigarette Bullet which is 31 foot and closest to a 300 Convincor. But it takes twin engines to push this beast and big , big money to get it close to 100.

Check 253 has done a lot of different things with his boat along with twin turbos. He also did alot of fabrication.

I feel 85 to 90 can be obtained with in reason on a reliable pump gas engine at a decent cost in a 300. But when limits are pushed to 100 and way over like check253 is doing it takes money but then again most 35 foot boats running 100 have 2 900hp engines or bigger.

Checkmates are lake boats and are no match for ocean poker runs.

I think the single most important factor in running big water is the length of the hull. Checkmate doesn't currently build a boat long enough to go fast in big water. I'll put my 30 against any other 30' V-bottom and I think be able to run with it. I do some boating in Lake Michigan and have been able to run 85-90 in 2 to 3' chop.

I have a line on merc props for the cnc mrec cleavers starting at $1600.00 they are used perfect condition and x-rayed, I know alot of guys don't want to chance a used one but most of these have been ran 1-time. There are some boat builder out my way that are in survival mode and clearing out there inventory. I have seen a pair of Herrings go for 12k I know they get expensive.
Thanks for the info very interesting That says alot to get 100 hrs out of a standard Bravo with over 1000 hp to it. That makes me feel better. I do see guys scatter XR's every summer.
You have a awesome boat check I like it.

I just found some good info to prove my theory on why twins are not needed in a 300 Convincor.

This boat is listed on Boat trader 1997 300 Convincor

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1997-CHECKMATE-BOATS-INC-303-Convincor-95870976

The guy has twin 540's claiming 700 hp each with a total of 1400 HP and the top speed he claims is 94.

Back to my figuring and according to my info gathered. You can take 1 800 HP engine and stick it in a atleast a 03 and up notched 300 hull and be just as fast.

Just think about it CHECK253 I think is around 1400 HP with one engine and is shooting over 115mph. So will twins slow you down in the long run if you wan't to acheive high top end numbers. I can tell you one thing you can build 1 1000hp engine and drive cheaper than you can build the 2 700hp 540's for and 2 drives

PS

I am not knocking the boat posted above at all. Its a very clean looking boat that looks like it was well cared for. I bet it sounds nasty with 2 540's and this boat is 2 foot longer than the newer 300 Convincors.

BR I not knocking your opinion as a lake boat but you have to keep a opened mind.
I going to point out the difference here, First there are no 30' boats that can crush 5' seas.
That twin convincor is set up for Offshore and is more dependable than a single 1400 hp 30' boat.
The Ocean can be a very unforgiving place. Most people that boat in the ocean listen to the Noa weather channel and plan before they go out so they can avoid big seas. Even when a calm day is predicted the ocean can dish anything out. Timing big swells and a lot of throttling up and down goes on in a rough ocean.
For dependability 94 MPH is smoking for a ocean boat. When the ocean gets rough none of them will hit top speed, The lighter single engine boat will air over the swells easier and you will be on and off the throttles more than the heavier boat. Then if you break the single engine boat you are stuck and you don't want to be stuck in the ocean. Chances are in a twin engine boat you won't break both and one engine will get you home.

For a lake hot rod and all out speed I have to agree with you.

For ocean boating I would take the twin engine any day. I grew up boating in the ocean If you have never boated in the ocean you would have to be there to know what I mean.
So there is a place for the twin engine Convincor. In rough conditions you may be surpised how that twin may stack up against the single engine convincor.

Yea it would be hard to work on, changing a impeller or a starter is a tough job on any boat rigged like that. Yanking the complete starboard engine is the best way to do it on a major tune up and service. At 50 to 100 hrs a single 1400 hp engine it would have to come out too for a major go through depending how hard you run it.
Another point and a good one about the twins depending the way it's set up, The counter rotation has a more neutral steering and handling characteristic. A single engine boat will turn better the direction the engine is rotating in generally.
I think someone has to consider how they will be using their boat most and buy or build one that fits their taste and need of use the best.

Ya, I'm not sure how much difference it would make, but the 97 is atrue 30 footer and the 03 and up are 28' with the swim platform counted in LOA. I would love to have one of the newer 300's with a notch and about 650 HP.:bigthumb:
