SEA STAR OR BAY STAR

LAPLANT

BOUT TO PUT HYD. STEERING ON MY DIP
TRYING TO SEE IF I NEED THE SEA STAR SYSTEM OR WILL THE BAY STAR BE ENOUGH
THE BOAT IS A 1980 DIPLOMAT WITH A 6 INCH JACKPLATE AND A 1996 2.5 XRI 150 HP EFI

I'd go Sea Star Pro with anything 150 horse and above.

Seastar, without a doubt, anything 150 and up should use it. Much better system, more heavy duty. We used to order a lot of boats with Yamaha F150s at our dealership with them and every customer complained about the same thing when they brought their boat in for service, always too much torque turning right. I know it's not power steering, but it only seems good for smaller outboards.

Think Safety

Laplant, if you have massaged your Black motor and what Checkmate driver hasn't. You have already exceeded the recommended HP for the Baystar.
No matter how much more the Seastar unit cost its a small amount for peace of mind. Remember your wife, girlfriend, or kids will be in that mate on occasion so you need to do the right thing for them as well as your self. Come resale time you won't be.
