I know its not good to jump the gun with my transom replacement, but I always catch myself thinking ahead. When I took off engine to my 82 Enchanter, it still had original transom plate on boat. If I got a set-back, what would I need. What are the pros (top speed), cons (handling compromised, planing off difficult?) Do I need a jackplate to attcj to transom plate? Where can I purchase transom plate

If I got a set-back, what would I need. What are the pros (top speed), cons (handling compromised, planing off difficult?) Do I need a jackplate to attcj to transom plate? About 6" would be a great place to start. Don't think you will need the transom plate. Most performance boats just have a jackplate. A transom plate in my opion just add stengh to a week transom. And by the time you get done with your transom it will be anything but weak.
