Seven Marine Outboards

alot of hype and pics about it but I've yet to hear it run
if you want all of that advertised horse and torque I would
think you want it attached to the stringers like an I/O and
not the transom like an outboard

Tere are some utube videos of the motor running. Pretty impressive, I agree thought it a lot of weight to be hanging off the trans. I think Its main market will be the offshore fishing machines that normally hang triples of quads. With 557 hp you could get more hp and less weight.

To me, one of the key advantages of outboard power is the vertical orientation of the engine that eliminates one set of gears to fail. I just looked at a video and the new 7 557 outboard engine mounts the V8 horizontally, and then has a transfer case to get the power moving down.

Furthermore, the designer mentions 'slipping clutches' as a way to reduce trolling speed, sounds to me like a recipe for increased expense replacing said clutches.

Now as an example look at the CM 28 OBX. If you were to hang 2-300hp verados on said rig you would be over 1200 LBS with only a slight HP advantage. Which may be offset by the 200 or so LBS reduction in weight.
A 28 OBX with one of these 7's would be badd a$$. The motor is only 70K per copy. I'll buy 2 just in case !!!

Gear ratio

I have a 1985 23 foot checkmate enforcer, has a 350 merc and an alpha one. I blew the out drive up, and I trying to figure out the correct gear ratio for that motor, For speed. Any suggestions?

1.47 ratio on almost all v8 Alpas. I have see a 1.62 used on a newer 5.0 vortec a couple times.
