Things seem to be fine with the server, it logs reports when it's getting taxed and can't respond to requests in a timely manner.
I also upgraded a number of aspects of the server early in January with our host.
Perhaps there is a slow spot somewhere in the internet between your connection and server.
Try running a tracert and see if one of the hops is bogging down a bit.
